"The next tax bracket" will only affect a small amount of his income.

We are taxed at a marginal rate, not a flat rate based on how much income you have during a given year.

If he is over "the next tax bracket" by $10k, then only that $10k will be taxed at the next marginal rate (not his entire income).

Seriously, I would look at debt - it's a guaranteed return, no matter how much or what the interest rate is - if you have more than $30k in debt, without other pressing issues such as deferred maintenance, there is no better investment you can make than to reduce your debt load - particularly consumer debt or anything securing a depreciating asset.

Having said that, I would reserve 10 to 15% of that for a nice trip, vacation - but try to make it something memorable.

Chevron or Exxon stock imo
