It was clear they consciously made the change up to try to avoid the notion that Kirk was just trolling for booty around the galaxy.

And I suppose, it made it easy that these guys were relatively confirmed bachelors - McCoy and Scotty, particularly, in their-mid 40s with no attachments.

And, production-wise, we don't even know that Spock is married yet. All we know is that he had somewhat of a dalliance with a human gal at one point. We know that Kirk is a hound with somewhat of a reputation in Starfleet.

I agree and I strongly believe that elements of this particular race were incorporated into the TNG/DS9 Klingon post-advent "revision" - watching this episode (which also, coincidentally includes a Klingon) makes it extremely clear. The Klingon could almost have been a Ferengi next to the Capellans.

Of course, I have no link or reference to support this - just a hunch. Whoever was tasked on revising/updating the Klingons would have, at least, reviewed all the TOS episodes containing Klingons, wouldn't they? So, it at least makes sense.

*WHO MOURNS FOR ADONAIS?*



The Enterprise is intercepted by a super powerful being - the last of his race, who visited and lived on the Earth during the peak of Greek Civilization. Worshipped as gods, this particular individual was known as the Greek god "Apollo".

Following a plot inspired by Greek tragedies, Apollo falls for a female crewmember and ends his existence after realizing that human beings no longer need gods.

(And the female, Lieutenant Carolyn Palamas, was played by Leslie Parrish - )



Production note: Jon Voight was considered for the role of Apollo.

The role instead went to Michael Forest, a veteran television actor.

The regret that he and McCoy showed kind of added to the tragic ending. It had to be done, but it was unfortunate.

It was a little change up for the landing party - swapping Chekov for Spock. He had a couple of good lines, including, "And I'm the Czar (Tsar) of all the Russias."

Good catch. Jay D. "Jimmy" Jones was Doohan's stunt double for this - he suffered a concussion doing the stunt. We started this thread with "Catspaw" and Jones was Jackson, and did the fall from the transporter pad. He often doubled Doohan for stunts. He as also severely injured in a stunt during "The Apple", where he plays Mallory.

Heck, I remember when Mannix was in first run. Mike Connors is of Armenian extraction - I guess the eyebrows should have been a tip off.

Just weird that the same gal would appear in a Sci-Fi series, then a detective show, and wear the same ancient era gown.
