I'm rewatching the series for the first time in a while and I'm towards the end of season 1. They are referencing Daniels and the extra money he shows, alluding to possible corruption. Does this loose end ever get tied up? I can't remember it ever receiving a thorough explanation but please refresh me if I'm wrong.

fom what i remember, the only thing they ever really mentioned was that he had skeletons in his closet but the story never really dug deeper into it.

That's what I thought too. I couldn't remember if more came from it later in the series when he was up for big promotions. Thanks.

it gets brought up one more time later on, when the chief is being forced out, he mentions to the councilwoman that he has a file on Daniels and she tells him that no one cares and if he brings it up he will lose any kind of cushion he has to land on.

define: tied up?

daniels took drug money in the past and some people know about it, and it comes up here or there in the show

I don't remember them ever explicitly saying he took drug money though. Just people saying he was part of an FBI investigation, there is a file on him, he once showed more money than he should have.

Tied up wasn't really the right phrase to use, I was wondering if the full story back story had ever been explained. They seem to be alluding that he took drug money but I don't remember anyone ever expanding on what the allegations were. Closest that I remember is Fitzhugh in season 1 explaining what he knew to McNulty but he doesn't go into much detail

Good question. I dont think it does, another topic never really addressed again, kinda like Rawls in the *spoiler*

when he's confronted by the chief, he doesn't exactly deny it

You gotta think Simon had a plan for everything had he been given more time I think both of these ?'s would eventually be addressed again in some way.

I didn't think the Rawls-gay bar scene was supposed to be big at all. I thought it was just a joke from the writers for the audience. Rawls was one of the worst assholes of any TV show, and the writers gave us a great chance to mock and laugh at him.

You know, before the gay movement took hold in pop culture.

That's the way it turned out. But still doesn't change that at the time I thought it was gonna be used later.

Rawls in a gay bar deserves its own spinoff series.

Damnit Shane, now I gotta watch this show again. I love season 2 with the duck gettin' drunk at the bar.
