Mandarin. Went to college classes, had personal tutors, and lived in China for a few years. Only way to really do it.

I haven't yet, but I'd like to learn more Spanish and Italian

I'm also 1/2 Hungarian and can only speak a few words. I'd love to learn it too, but it would be very difficult to learn

Learning German now for our return to Deutschland this summer...

There's a great app called Duolingo...it's free and basically the same thing as Rosetta Stone with lessons and categories.

I'm sure I won't be perfectly fluent in time, but I'll sure know a hell of a lot more than I did before.

Huge fan of this app.

Arabic.......immersion classes and travel.

Not sure where you are, but Rice has an awesome immersion class that really helps you get a grasp of the language. Plus, I was fortunate in that I was able to live in Egypt for 6 years (although I took stupid French while living there)

I'm going to start that with the German lessons. I've messed around with it before. The articles in German confuse the shite out of me.

Yeah, you did. If Chicken would spring for a Cyrillic font, I would reply with a Russian witticism.

I really want to learn Spanish. Would be so helpful to me at work and when traveling.

However....I suck at languages so I don't know if something like Rosetta Stone would even help me.

Friend of mine went back to school to become a sign interpreter. They actually make decent money for events.

Things you need to know....

1. Learning a language outside of a country that speaks it primarily is extremely difficult.

2. If you do not have anyone that you can speak the 2nd language with on a regular basis, you are most likely going to have a hard time acquiring/retaining that language. (Skype does help, but not as much as daily face to face).

3. The continued desire to gain proficiency in a 2nd language is directly proportional to its usefulness.

If you have friends or family that speak another language, you truly want to pick it us as a hobby, or you will have some business or personal need for it, I say go for it. However, don't waste your time or money on it if it's just a "cool" thing you want to do. It's totally not worth learning if all that's going to come of it is having a spot on a resume or dropping it in conversation on a date.

I need to learn a little Spanish. We've got three guys coming in from Mexico to work on the farm this coming year. They know very little English... I used Google translate to communicate with the one we had last year.
