I expected him to be on the firing block given the turmoil with the 2 OL during the season, and then falling apart the last few weeks and missing the playoffs. Has anybody read anything on what the Dolphins plan to do?

I heard it was 50/50 Sunday. I believe I heard it on ESPN so take that for what it's worth.

Is this his 2nd year or 3rd? They really choked their playoff hopes away, but he should get another year.

They need to fire Jeff Ireland. The Dolphins lost Jake Long to free agency last year. They moved up from #12 to #3 in the draft. Why? Obviously to take Lane Johnson, a 6'6 303 lb tackle that runs a 4.72 40. Nope. Despite having a Pro Bowl DE in Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon who actually finished with more sacks (11.5) than Wake this year, they take Dion Jordan who wasn't even ready for training camp as a rookie because he had off-season shoulder surgery.

Hell, they could have moved up #10 and taken DJ Fluker or Chance Warmack. Then this a-hole Ireland who bet the farm on Jonathan Martin being able to fill Long's shoes tells Richie Incognito to punch Martin to toughen him up. Great move as it caused one OL to quit and another to get suspended....not that it had anything to do with the Dolphins scoring 7 points in their last 2 regular season games with the playoffs hanging in the balance or allowing the most sacks in the NFL.

^^^This. Ireland is the problem, not Philbin.

I'd argue that Philbin did a heck of a job salvaging what could have been a dumpster fire after the Martin-Incognito disaster and the media circus that entailed, not to mention the fact that it caused him to lose two starting offensive linemen in the process.

He came across as a huge boob in the bullying thing. The several times i have heard him talk he also comes across as one of the low wattage bulbs.

if he was going to be fired he would have been canned already. All the teams are going after the same few guys and you don't want to be officially looking after the big names are hired

Hard Knocks didn't help him either, but he's a decent coach.

He deserves a lot of the credit for Aaron Rodgers's development, and he's made Tannehill a serviceable option in the wasteland that has been the starting QB spot in Miami.

He's a pretty smart guy. I don't think he likes dealing with the press a whole lot and especially not on the bullying situation. I think he was torn between trying to be politically correct and expressing his truthful opinion that his players also happened to share - that Jonathan Martin was a first rate pussy!
