It's opening right near campus next to atcha bakery. Anyone know anything about it? Google turns up nothing

Fried chicken? Yeah, I know something about that.

I can't eat chicken and waffles after what happened at Glady's in Atlanta before the Chik-fil-a Bowl last year. Never again

Saw it is open. Going tomorrow! Will report back

Is this in that Southgate complex and I thought it had been opened for awhile?

I don't think so...it's in that old building that used to be Tiger Burger or something like that, not the new development next to it which houses Voodoo BBQ. North gates of LSU on Nicholson near the Natatorium, not the South gates. Are you maybe thinking of Leroy's Fried Chicken?
They didn't look open last week when I drove by; still had the sign up for taking job applications.
Here's an article I found about it: LINK

That's what I was thinking. Leroy's, Willie's both good fried chicken names. Oprah is another good fried chicken name.

The restaurant will have white meat and dark meat options and the "Willy-wich," featuring a fried chicken breast between two waffles with the restaurant's signature mayo and ketchup-based sauce and syrup.
That sounds like it would taste awful. Will be interesting to see how long it survives since that particular spot seems cursed.

So what's the verdict? Has anyone been there yet? I still haven't

alright people,
after not finding any reviews online for willy's, i decided that i was going to have to be the one to do it. so here is my review of willy's chicken and waffles.
first off, i dig the location. this is the first time i have ever walked into a restaurant in the aster/nicholson area without questioning the cleanliness or worrying about getting shot. The inside is decorated with movie posters of all sorts and colors. the atmosphere was pretty good. as i walked up to the register to get a better look at the menu, i was greeted by a friendly employee who was quick to recommend the willy sandwich, so thats what i ordered. it cost just over $7 for the combo, which came with tater tots and a drink. they have the typical fountain drinks or you can get fruit punch or grape kool-aid LOL. honestly, i dont know how i feel about the tater tots. its as if they didnt belong or as if the owner was like there needs to be a side and eventually decided on tots. i came here for chicken and waffles and you're giving me tater tots? its CHICKEN AND WAFFLES, nothing else. a real enthusiast knows this.
one thing i will note is that the service was pretty good. they brought my drink to me, refilled it for me, brought my food to me, etc. that was a huge plus and helps my chances of returning.
upon receiving my meal, right off the bat i could tell i would have to bring my A-game appetite if i was gonna put this beast down in one sitting. the willy sandwich was a whole boneless chicken breast placed in between two belgian waffles, kind of what you would get at a continental breakfast. to me, it's definitely the fast food version of chicken and waffles as compared to the real deal, not like real roscoe's chicken and waffles in Los Angeles. i'd say the food was decent. you won't blow anyone away by taking them there but it is a nice change from the run of the mill BR bullsh*t we're dealing with.
like i said earlier, the meal came with tater tots. it also came with a cup of syrup and a cup of cane's sauce. you can definitely see the similarities between cane's and this place since they have the same owner.
with that said, the amount of syrup they give you is not enough. if this place lasts, i would like to see them put out big canisters of syrup, like they do at ihop or waffle house. honestly it was kind of humorous as to how much syrup they DIDN'T give you. i like to drench my chicken and waffles in it but they werent havin that. this has always been my complaint with cane's too. like come on dude, you're really gonna charge me 50 cents for more sauce? it's nickel and diming like that, that makes me not want to never go back to these places.
the tater tots, i mean ehhhh they were alright. nothing special.
overall it wasn't bad, but it wasn't life-changing either. i like the fact that all drinks were 99 cents, that was cool.
i think this place has potential but i would definitely recommend some changes if they plan on staying there for awhile.
TL;DR cane's version of fast food chicken and waffles and the owner is still a jew who gives you fun sized sauce and syrup and charges extra for stupid BS. worth it for $7? yes. however, it's not somewhere i am going to be dying to go eat at.

OK, finally made it out there.
First, I love chicken and waffles. Like really love it.
I ordered the Willy-Wich, which was a lot to handle. It is seriously massive. It took a lot of stomach space and I only ate half. The fried chicken breast was probably one of the best non-spicy fry's i've had. the waffle was solid too.
Wish they would get more creative with the sandwich, but for $7 it really was a pretty solid meal. You could easily bring the other half home and eat it for breakfast the next day. I wound up splitting it up into little waffle-sandwiches like a club sandwich.
I think they should branch into breakfast, personally, that's when I like to eat chicken and waffles. If you like fried stuff, I'd recommend it.

So Todd Graves owns this place?

what did you think of the tots?

nope, that dude has no clue what hes talking about. its a former cane's executive that wanted to try opening his own place and maybe becoming a chain. there was an article in the revellie about the place. it was pretty good, not sure why someone would need a huge thing of syrup. and the tater tots were fine, of course your meal needs a side. also, the waffles are really big.

He gave a decent review. Said it was good but wasn't worshipping the place.

I have been thinking about what might be a better side. Hard to come up with.
Waffle fries?
Slaw?

Greg Williams was Todd's #3 guy who helped him open the original Canes. Greg was a District Manager and was Director of New Store Openings before he resigned to go work for himself for a while.
