Decreasing International Wars: what role does global trade play?

namely, does any person want to argue that global trade is not the #1 reason for the massive decrease in international conflict?
other than the US invading Iraq twice, there hasn't really been too much international war since the fall of the USSR and the major push for globalization/global trade. threats? posturing? sure...but actual international conflict? very rare
this era may be the closest to world peace that the earth will ever see...let's think about that

They'd be a dumbass if they did.
Too many people are afraid to acknowledge that good old fashioned greed and self-interest are the ABSOLUTE BEST motivators for good behavior.

Those wars were due primarily to global trade in oil.

There wasn't a major global war during the height of the Soviet empire. I believe this is due to Russia's stance of basically not participating in global trade. At least not at the levels that the US and now China do.
It remains to be seen whether global trade will prevent conflict between the US and China or be the cause of it.

it's more than just greed and self-interest, as it takes 2 to tango...the more we interact and rely upon each other, the less likely we are to kill each other or disrupt our economies with war

if we go to war, we'll both fall into a major depression and both lose, regardless of the outcome
we wouldn't even get oil from them

Afghanistan, Vietnam, Korea, and about 20 international conflicts in Africa happened during that time

If we went to war today that would certainly be the case. That may not be true a generation from now.

right...because of greed and self-interest.
ideally, trade makes both parties richer. why would anyone want to harm a person making them richer? that self-interest scales out and becomes a deep rooted self-interest on a global scale where the costs of war are just too much to bear.

I said major war. There are just as many "conflicts" happening across the globe right now. Maybe we are using different definitions for "major international conflict."

international conflicts?
yes there are pure civil wars, but not one nation invading/attempting to invade, another. where is this occurring?

i have read theories that wars are great to invest in infrastructure

you talking the typical "broken window fallacy" bs, or something different?
Posted on 12/27/13 at 4:29 pm to WikiTiger
a large-scale broken window fallacy

About as much as it did to prevent WWI or WWII.
War between major nations is now simply too destructive and too expensive. Peace from major conflicts has next to nothing to do with international trade IMHO.

Trade would likely be a big reason, but shouldn't the USA rise to sole super power be big also?

Every time I read such things, my brain literally loses a few more cells.

When goods don't cross borders, soldiers will.

It only makes sense that more often than not, it's cheaper to buy what you want than invade, occupy and take it.

Until enough tariffs are put in place.
