I am so sick of hearing this, what exactly does that mean? What good football player isn't dangerous when they catch the ball or get a pitch when they have space? are there players who are bad in space?

Wouldn't you always rather get the ball to a guy in space? I.E. someone not right on top of him to tackle him?

When they get outside and its one on one and they can make the play to make the guy miss, he's good in space. Some guys are great power running up the middle, but they get outside one on one and they get tackled everytime.

Not as bad as "he's a guy you want to get into open space". No shite, that's the whole point of football.

As an average white kid whose best 40 was a 5 flat, this saying always made sense to me...but I still laughed my shaft off at this thread

Five up votes for something that's 100% false. Must be the internet. He wasn't that elusive in the backfield, in spite of his reputation as a scrambler. He was fast and damned strong if given space. He was very fast on a straight line for his size. Not many defenders could stop him at full speed.
