i have a mercury 25 2 stroke on my 14 ft aluminum boat. my question is, can i put an aftermarket over heat alarm on this motor? the reason is, my water pump got clogged the other day and it was dark so i couldnt tell if it was pissing(which it obviously wasnt) and my motor shut off and was smoking! ive since started it and all seems fine, but i dont want to burn it up! im going to pull it apart after duck season and check everything out to make sure i dont get stranded! thanks!

There is a probe on the head cover. If not, you can buy one for it. It should have one wire coming off it and it is located in the center. What year motor? Also, you can add a horn when it alarms under the cover. Were are you located? I have a few of those and will give you one.

this is a picture of the motor, the boat is a 92 model and im almost certain this motor was on this boat when it was bought. im located in opelousas, but i go to br quite a bit to visit family and i hunt in walker!

Go get a sensor and small peizo alarm from merc dealer.
