Ill give the pelicans credit. They mostly beat the bad teams they play. Can't beat a good one to save their lives, but they usually beat the mediocre ones.

Of course not. The fact is this team is talented and able to beat bad teams, but can't beat good ones. It's not like they just don't win many against good teams, they are yet to win 1. In the end, they are improved talent-wise but lack leadership to wlbe a real playoff team.

It's a new team with young talent. They haven't even spent a third of a season together yet. Give it a break..

The team which is expected to be about a 0.500 team loses to teams and that seem better than it (those with winning records, basically) and wins over teams worse than it (those with losing records, basically).

I don't see cause for surprise.

There are only two teams in the NBA with zero wins against teams .500 or better. It's a little surprising to see a near .500 team to be one of those two teams. The other is Milwaukee, who has the worst record in the NBA.

If you want to actually draw a comparison between the Pelicans and the Bucks: How do the Bucks perform against the teams with losing records?

Also, let's mention point differential... The Pelicans have an ORtg-DRtg of 0.2, which predicts a 0.500 record, give or take, and does so with more accuracy than simply looking at the record to date.

New roster, still in December and have had injury issues to two of the best players. Let's see how they're doing in February, k?

They are 6-15 compared to our 12-3, how does this matter in the conversation at all?

In our conference every single team has 3+ victories over .500+ teams except for us. To be fair, our sample size is the 2nd smallest and some of those teams don't have to play themselves.

I actually can't remember a team this different vs the 2 opposing sides. I see 2 reasons for our inability to close out games vs these teams. 1) coaching - won't turn this thread into a Monty thread 2) lack of battle tested veterans on the team. We don't have anybody on this team that has been through the wars and expects to win the close games. Hell, everyone except Ryno has pretty much been stuck on perennial losers their entire careers. They don't even know how to emulate winning games. That body language shines through, and I think the only thing that cures that is winning.

I really hope this team has a run in them. A nice 5-6 game winning streak would do wonders for them moving forward. We just need them to know that they are better than some of these teams.

What is the time table on professional basketball players "gelling"? These guys have been practicing and playing together since the summer.

How long until this dumb excuse runs out?

Look, anyone on this board could tell you I'm probably leading the pack in the "Fire Monty" crusade right now. However, "gelling" is what the team did last night. "Winning" is what the team has not been able to accomplish so far this season. If you don't believe me, look at our team's body language next time we are in a close game vs. a team full of vets. They EXPECT to make plays. We are trying to make plays. Big difference.

Gelling means however long it takes the pro Monty's to try to hold out until they start pulling another excuse out their arse.

They used the "rebuilding" excuse for two years. So I guess it's gonna take at least til 2015 for this gelling excuse to run its course.

Shameless Pel. I'm the Rosa Parks of the " fire Monty" crusade. I paved the way for folks like you.

I am not sure why you raised the poor comparison.

Ha. You'd be surprised. I was Monty's Doghouse in the hornets247.com/MT5 days. Then, I gave him the benefit of the doubt for 2.5 years stupidly to try to fit in/got tired of arguing.

ETA:

Thank you for holding it down here. I now see what you must have been dealing with...and I shiver...
