1911--What are the differences in these two guns?

Let's see. The Remington was heavy. Much heavier than the Colt. I have big hands so the Remington felt better. It's trigger seemed loose. Maybe not loose but it wasn't as secure as the Colt. BUT, it felt better when I'd fire.

That's about all I know about them. They had both marked right at 1000 dollars but it's my uncle and great uncle who own the place so they're selling to me retail.

Are the two models worth a damn?

ETA: I REALLY need to cut my nails

That colt is a mil spec model, the Remington pictured has more bells and whistles, like beavertail, Novak sights, and upgraded grips to name a few things

Colt is your basic mil spec model.

Remington is an upgraded version.

The beavertail feels really good in my hand. I'm wondering more about the quality of the guns. I'll use it to shoot with my buddies who are really into it. Probably 2 weekends a month.

The beaver tail makes it much more enjoyable to shoot. I like my colt much more then my Remington, mine are opposite, Remington is mil spec and colt has bells and whistles.

Colt is made from superior steel than Remington and will hold its value better than a Remington.

Oh, and screw Remington for cutting a deal and staying in New York. I try to avoid their products.

.

That's where I was probably going. It was weird to me that it had more bells and whistles but was slightly less expensive.

The Colt is more expensive because it is a Colt. However it is a Government Spec 1911 and,as someone pointed out, does not have good sights, extended beavertail, a raised grip safety, extended slide safety, or skeletonized trigger and hammer that most 1911 shooters like today. Also, if you are not limited to those two pistols, check out the Ruger SR1911. Less expensive than the Remington, has the bells and whistles that I mentioned, and made in Arizona, not New York. I just bought one and love it.

Was waiting for someone to make these observations and recommend Ruger.

That remington isn't a bad gun. I've actually got on with a few parts changed out for some new ones but it's a good shooter

Almost bought the Commander, but since it was my first 1911, went with full size. One other thing about the Ruger that most 1911 traditionalists like is that it is a 70 Series and has an internal extractor. Really a classically designed 1911.

I own that Colt but I've had some trigger work done to mine. I enjoy the hell out of it but have changed the trigger, changed rear sights, changed safety, etc.
