My 11 year old daughter finally got a doe Saturday evening after she shot one earlier in the year that we never found.

She shot one Saturday evening that I thought we were going to lose as well. Went to look for it after about an hour and saw it laid up in a thicket looking at me as I hit it with with my mag light and the eyes reflected back at me. It hopped up and left a few seconds later before I could get a shot off.

Backed out and went back Sunday morning and found it about 100 yards from where we jumped it the previous night. Liver / gut shot! It was pretty late when she shot and I'm sure she just lost definition of the anatomy a bit and just center massed it.

Glad we got the recovery.

I cant wait to get one for my exs kids.

Glad yal found it. I gut shot my first deer and never found it.
I was sick about it till I laid down the next one with a neck shot.

What was she shooting for it to survive like that?

A gut shot deer can live a good while (5-8 hours). A pure liver shot can take a couple hours to kill a deer. She was using a 6 mm and barely clipped the liver but it was more of a gut shot than anything.

Had I known that I wouldn't have gone to look as quickly as I did. I thought she got a lung shot behind the shoulder.

She shot it around 5:30 and I'm guessing the deer finally expired a bit after midnight

Tigamike,
Congrats to your daughter (and especially to YOU Not many folks realize how much a dad sacrifices in helping a young one to harvest game.) In addition, you done good in not "pushing" the deer right after the shot or after you jumped. Under those circumstances, most fall prey to the temptation to immediately push the deer; lots of the time, those deer are not recovered.
