How much option do we see in AJ's 1st start?

I say at least 5 or 6 option plays.

He is a pocket passer that can run. He is fast for a qb but is not even JJ fast.

Maybe some read option but I don't think we see much if any pure option plays. We're gonna throw the ball with Jennings.

a li'l zone read, a lil speed. don't freak out if it's to the short side either folks, it'll be ok.

I think 4 or 5 seems about right.
Speed option once or twice, and then a little read option (although I've never really been convinced that we run the read option, I think we just call running plays that look like there is an option).

With Hill and our FBs, I'd imagine he's going to have to take a lot of snaps from under center. But when he lines up in the shotgun, Iowa can't assume it's a pass. He could feed someone coming in motion, maybe run a designed QB draw, that type of stuff. But I don't think Cam will go crazy trying to reinvent the offense for this one game. He can install the full monty in the spring and summer.

Yeah, and as often as this board will inevitably compare JJ and AJ as QBs (and they couldn't be more different at the position), they are also completely different runners.
JJ was at his best running when in open space. He had a pretty slow first step for someone with his speed with his long strides in space. AJ on the other hand is supremely quick, which is far more beneficial for a QB.

I don't care what side it's to, as long as he can execute the option correctly. Unlike old 1-speed, cruise control JJ.

I hope we see a lot of the option for Rivers to play.
Posted on 12/19/13 at 1:30 pm to ItsThatDude12
Hopefully a lot less than we saw in JJ's last start, amirite?

Rivers may be the only other option

According to this Advocate piece, it's being practiced, but note Jarvis' quote on him staying in the pocket:
Jennings
Jennings
quote:
Sure, his feet separate him from Mettenberger, but the goal is for him to pass from the pocket, receiver Jarvis Landry said. “We want him to stay in the pocket,” Landry said. “He wants to stay in the pocket also and throw the ball. We understand he has the ability to extend plays. He knows that also. “Thing is, for us, when he escapes out of the pocket, (we) try to find his eyes, get him to find us. And if he can’t, he’ll run.”
