It is a shite show over there. They show to have no idea who is in charge and everyone wants to run the school.

Yeah, yeah...money and recruits. You can get recruits anywhere and Texas wont pay more than 3M for anyone not named Saban.

Unless you are a younger coach at a small program continueing to move up the ranks, it is not an attractive job.

How about being set for life from all the oil tycoon alums that'll take care of you?

And this:

Texas wont pay more than 3M for anyone not named Saban.

is BS.

I'd bet the incentives in contracts would be absolutely worth it.

Waste of money and unreachable expectations then.

They could get Art Briles for less than 4M and dominate the state and the Big 12.

I don't see the storm at Texas...same problem as everywhere: alumni at your throat.
Otherwise, huge salary, massive resources, nice city, great recruiting territory.

No way they get Briles for $4 mill. Probably $6 mill. Baylol has rich alumni too.

Why?

Huge salary. Nearly unlimited resources. Fairly easy conference, particularly once OU goes into decline when Stoops retires. My own TV network. the most fertile recruiting territory in the nation. Beautiful campus full of beautiful women. A fairly patient AD (Mack won two conference titles in 15 years, which is not all that impressive for a program of Texas' rep).

Seriously, what's NOT to like about the job? Oh, those billion dollar boosters want access? I have to do a coach's show on national TV? Big whoop.

He would take a pay cut to work at a school he apparently hates?

Coaches that are worried about expectations are losers. Any school worth anything will have some degree of high expectations.

Expectations have never forced coaches to lose games.

I find myself typing out responses like these sometimes and realize it is pointless when dealing with a lack of perspective like the OP enjoys

What are you talking about.

Petterson was just hired weeks ago as AD and has been given total control over the search. He will find his guy and present him to bill powers for final approval. Powers already announced it was all Patterson on who to interview and look at.

Sounds to me like Patterson is in charge and there is no doubt about it.

And if you being up the firing of Mack as your example. Someone leaked the most obvious piece of news there was. Mack was told at beginning of season to win or go home and they fired Deloss odds because he didn't want to fire Mack. I think when dods was fired Mack knew exactly where he stood and what needed to be done to keep his job and he didn't win.
