While we're throwing out names for the Texas job

Why not Larry Fedora? He's done considerably well at UNC, and built a championship program at USM. He knows the recruiting area around Texas, and could provide an exciting new offense.

I was told a while back that he covets the aggie job.

Anyone but Gus, right? CGM is going to be the next HC at Texas. Its a lot better job and place to live. That's what they told Saban.

Last coach from UNC did fairly well at Texas.

He's been very average at NC

Fedora has been a disappointment at UNC.

Back to back winning seasons on probation and at a basketball school? Not to mention 1st in their division last year?

Not really.
2 conference championships in 16 years, both times played for the national championship and won it once. With the resources that texas has money and recruiting wise, I would expect something a bit better.

what did they expect in his first 2 years? I mean he went 8-4 last year. Got a bowl game this year. I just don't think it's fair to say he's a disappointment yet. Aren't they still going through some scholarship issues?

An aggie calling two conference titles and a national championship over 16 years not really good.

Didn't a&m win two national titles and two conference titles last year?

Nice deflection?
We suck, we all know that. I'd probably be estatic if we had the same results but we also aren't texas. Those numbers just don't strike me as doing all that great with the resources that place has.

Fedora's Dad is actually a semi retired barber in Bryan who only does haircuts one day a week by appointment. My Dad gets his haircut from him. He was really bummed we picked Sumlin over his son. Fedora is a solid coach and human being and would do well at Texas. Just don't think he has the "splash" they are looking for.

Thinking UT will not hire another UNC guy

Since we're throwing out names, if I were UT I'd put in a call to Mark Richt.
Experience at a big-time program (check)
Success at a big-time program (2 SEC titles, several Eastern div. titles) (check)
Good (maybe not great) recruiter (check)
Very good QB developer (check)
Relatively young (check)
It seems like every year he's on the "hot seat" at UGA. Their fans know that he's been successful, but still think that he has underachieved and that UGA could possibly do better. He's had some excellent college QBs in Athens and he'd be going to a state with a reputation for producing great QBs. He'll be going into next season without his record-setting QB, and the possibility of 3-4 losses is there. Will UGA be willing to accept another "mediocre" season? Now might be the time to jump to a new spot and I don't think he would get a better offer than UT. He may not be on the short list for UT right now, but at some point I'd give him a call. The timing is right for a move.

Texas then isn't what Texas today is. While they have a great recruiting base, the rise of the SEC into a dominant force has had something to do with Texas not doing as great as they should. Even if the conference isn't as good, Texas isn't getting as many recruits with the allure of the SEC.
I don't think Brown is an all-time great coach or anything, but he put Texas back on the map. When was the last national title before he got there?

He grew up in Bryan/Cs but is not an Aggie by label.
