I've been approached about trading my Sig 516 for a tricked out Saiga .308. I've done some research and most people believe these new Saiga .308s are junk. What say the ODB?

I wouldn't make the trade. Keep the SIG.

They are very different weapon systems. One is a mid-caliber carbine and the other is a hgiher caliber battle rifle.

My opinion is though, that if I were to get a 308, it would be an M1A, AR10, or SCAR 17s.

I shot a VEPR this weekend at the range. It was a 16" AK-type 308 rifle. It was reliable, yes, but it had a violent action (the bolt comes back VERY fast, which is a characteristic of AK's to be overgassed) and much more felt recoil than other 308s I've fired. It was reliable too, but the magazines are very heavy and quite expensive. I'm also not a huge fan of the short sight radius of AKs. The guy did a good job putting some Kreb's accessories on it, but I think there are much better options out there.

If it were me, I wouldn't do the deal.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to pass on the Saiga.
