Looking for a golden retriever

Looking for a male golden retriever puppy for my daughters birthday in March. Anyone have suggestions on places to look? I'm in the New Orleans area.

Excellent pet. Good luck finding one.

In the Laffy area we have a classifieds paper called the Quick Quarter. I'm sure you have something like that. That's where I found my boxer.

I have two. Start looking for a new vacuum as well.

Looks like you've already made up your mind, so I'm not trying to sell you on the breed. I just wanna say that it's an excellent choice, especially considering kids. Sure, like labs, they're gonna dig the yard up for a couple years, but I had mine for 13 years, and he was the best dog I've ever had.
This dog was never "trained", so to speak, but could retrieve a specific ROCK thrown into WATER...in a creek. He could retrieve a specific stick thrown into a pile of sticks, with me covering his eyes as I threw it. Shoulda been a cadaver dog. But the most impressive thing, when we had our first son, he was so gentle with him. As he got old enough to walk around in the yard, the dog just walked along with him, and if he go within 50 feet of the road, the dog would stand in his way and cry, as if to let us know. As 1-2 year olds will do, ours tried to ride him, pulled his tail, whatever...and the dog would just stand there and take it.
I have a black lab now (Jake died in 2009), but even now, my kids (now 11 and 9) talk about how much they miss Jake and wish we'd get another golden.
RIP Jake 1996-2009

Hmm $2k for a golden retriever. Didn't know they ran that much.

The aforementioned "Jake" was $100 in 1996 dollars.

Oprah bought one from him recently.

That's a pricey doggy right there.

I was looking at Huntington farms, my wife's family bought one from them years ago. 2k seemed expensive at first look, but looking at other places like puppyfind theirs were 1000-2000 and in MS. So, maybe the 2k is the going rate? Seems expensive to me, but, what do I know about golden prices.

From your OP, I assume your looking for a family pet. For $2K, that dog better be able to change diapers and take out the trash, at least. And clean up after himself. That's insane.

Your paying for the bloodline and nothing more. If this is just a pet house dog. I would think you could find one for 200 ish.

Yes, this will just be a family house dog. I have not seen any goldens in the $200 range. They all seem 1000-2000 range from what I have seen so far on puppy find and puppy finder websites.

Look in a different area. NOLA.com or Craiglist or something.

This is Clyde, AKC registered, papers in hand. I paid literally $50 for him in Tangipahoa Parish, LA about 1 1/2 years ago. Couple was having a baby and wanted him to go to a good home. He was less than a year old when I got him.
Not a golden, but labs and goldens are about the same in price.
