there are a number of jobs as good or better when one considers the overall conditions. some folks seem to think that texas oil money will be showered on the HC and also think recruiting texas is as easy as falling off a log. never mind that what got mack in trouble to begin with was lazy recruiting. texas is not one of the schools that will give the head football coach complete control as others do.

the u of tejas may be getting ready to find out the same thing Alabama found out post stallings and pre saban; they are pretty much just another job in tier one and many coaches are not interested (for a number of reasons).

they very well may have to "settle".

Agreed.

But Texas has the POTENTIAL to be one of if not the best job in football. Which is why Saban was the perfect fit because he can build programs.

They've still had top 10 classes the last several years even with Mack's laziness. Mack's downfall was not having a great QB for the last several years.

To get the players Texas got given Mack's less than stellar efforts shows just how easy it will be for a good coach to win big there. That's a big part of why it's a great job for coaches.

There is no program that is on Texas's level.

They have the most money.

The most exposure.

The most\best recruits.

Mack Brown was able to bring in top 10 classes without even recruiting kids. Put a coach in there who will try and they would undoubtedly have the #1 recruiting class every year.

Just look at USC / Steve Sarkisian.

When you (and others) say "complete control", what do you mean exactly?

neither did les miles.

his downfall was not just a fall off in recruiting (which did fall off) it was coaching too. and his team seemed to lose their hunger (just like their coach).

They both shouldn't have passed up recruiting Heisman winners then!

Define a "good job" in coaching then.

good question. most successful coaches control a lot of things but complete control is when the head coach calls his shots, as much as possible, on media relations, fund raising efforts, player discipline, player selection and all of the myriad of decisions that a football program is forced to make. mack brown had the LHN to satisfy, wealthy alumni to placate and probably a lot of interference about scholarship selection (ie, legacy players, etc).

I guess, in the college football world, nick saban defines "complete" control.

one that meets or exceeds expectations.

kevin sumlin is a good example. has two victories over top teams in 2 years and was resigned for 5 mil/year. steve spurrier has never won the SEC and usc alumni worship him.

Texas is THE job in college football.

Just because Saban didn't go there, stop trying to fool yourselves.

Yup, and as discussed the other day, their football program clears $75M a year. With the right AD/Coach in place, they could have the best of anything and everything they wanted.

What job out there can pay more money, offer more resources, provide more exposure, and has a bigger recruiting base than Texas?

Not having ten big money egos in your ear trying to control how you run your program.

UTs issues havent been lack of talent. It's been shitty coaching and a horrible team atmosphere. Players all feel entitled and expect to win rather than working to earn it.

They need a change in leadership. Plain and simple.
