Nick Saban, who agreed to a long-term extension Friday to remain the coach at Alabama, said Saturday that he never had any intentions of going to Texas.

quote:

"I don't want to go someplace else," Saban said. "I don't know how many times I can say that.

quote:

"Maybe this will be what the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay thing was to the NFL the last couple of years. That kind of ended the pro speculation. Maybe this will end the college speculation. This is where I'm going to finish my coaching career."

Sounds like a motive for the Texas flirtation, to me.
Kill two birds with one stone: silence the speculation while simultaneously reversing his reputation of a coaching nomad and get a raise at the same time.

Should, but won't. There is a huge market for desperation

I'm glad to have him and even with the massive amount of people who think he is a scumbag I think he is a great person to represent my school.

I don't get why people think he's a scumbag.
He only said he wasn't going to Alabama while he was in that press conference with the Dolphins because at that time he was focused on the Dolphins, season was still going on and probably hadn't given enough thought yet to the Bama job. These people that keep harping on that are pathetic. Every move he's made has been for a good reason, which he doesn't need anyway, he's a grown arse man and can do what he wants.

LSU>Dolphins-NFL enough said
Dolphins>Bama-enjoys coaching in college bettter
it's that simple

It's just weird how everyone laughs when we say he likes Alabama.

Our campus is one of the most beautiful in the country. We have a city of 100,000 people, only a 50 minute drive from a metro area with a population in the millions. This ain't exactly bumfrick. It's not super awesome hipster vegan jamband Austin by any stretch. But a 62-year old couple enjoying the Tuscaloosa community and the University of Alabama? That's not laughable. I see it every single day. You can have a nice life here. That's a true story.

Saban only cares about money, lies, etc. He even admitted that he has made some bad decisions in his career that has affected peoples view of his integrity but I think in the end it has made him better and he truly means what he says now.

Would you expect him to say anything differently?

How about "I sure wanted to be the head coach at Texas but since their current head coach is still there my agent and I just decided to milk Alabama for as much money as we could get."?????

Between all SEC states, really there is not much difference. And for what he does, he works so much, his office, football room can be in a bunker in Russia.

Very true, I've been to Tuscaloosa for many football games and baseball series. The campus is super nice, upgrades, etc. It's the SEC, in the South..it's either you like it or not.

At the time he said that, and so strongly, I would seriously bet he didn't think he was going, he would've kept the 'company line' focused on the rest of the season here, etc'. If he knew he was leaving, he would not have blatantly said it that way.

that deal was in the works in october. he was getting hounded about it because everyone knew it was in the works. i'm completely over the saban thing as you can tell by my lack of posts on this board during the "he gone" frenzy. i responded to you because it was a complete white wash of what went down. saban learned a pretty big lesson from the way he handled that and its a big part of why he stayed at Bama (7 Mil had a bit to do with it as well). good for him. miles v. saban for the next 7 years is going to make for some great football.

If he truly had no "intentions" of going to Texas-he could have nipped it in the bud weeks ago. Either he's lying or used it as an excuse to milk more money out of Bama.

Saban never answered a phone call from Bama until the Dolphins' season ended. That is the truth.

Then he should have stuck to his word. After that statement, he should have called his agent and told him to leave it alone-my credibility is on the line.
