Main Character designs you just don't understand.

Ok, so there are characters out there who are memorable for their great and iconic designs, like Link.
But what are some of the characters that just make you say, "WTF were the game designers thinking?"
For example, I've been playing Nier on PS3. The game is fricking awesome, but WTF were the game designers thinking when they came up with the protagonist?
Seriously, he looks like a cracked out Bruce Jenner, which is saying a lot since Bruce Jenner already looks like he is on crack.
Someone saw that face and hair and thought it was a good idea.
Why?
Also, Kaine is fricking awesome as a character.

Any character from Final Fantasy 8-13.
And Lost Odyssey.
I like some of those games, but find the characters difficult to take seriously.
Worst offenders: Zell Dincht, Kaim Argonar, Tidus, Quina, Paine, Vaan, Snow. Those are just the atrocities that appear by default when I scan my memory of those games. And that's not even counting the various hysterical-looking and behaving villains like Seymour. He makes Vayne look subtle.

Lost Odyssey is a really good one. There are a bunch of weird characters in that game.
The two kids are perfect examples.
Kaim's armor was completely impractical. And why would he want to show off his midriff?

Those are weird, but they aren't WTF worthy.
