Taking a break from "he gone"...

Every year, you see Grudens name come up with head coaching vacancies. A couple of points:
- For a guy thats supposed to be an offensive genius, his most successful teams won with exceptional defenses.
- His career record is 95-81. Take away the 12-4 Superbowl season, and hes only 83-77. His teams have only had winning records in 6 of 11 seasons.
- He's been out of coaching since 08. The game has changed a ton in those years.

I mean, hes a quirky personality. But I just dont get why anyone would want to dig Gruden up at this point.

Feel free to talk amongst yourselves, just thought a topic not about Saban might be nice.

Yeah, Gruden isn't gonna get hired. He's a name everyone knows but he has never been a college head coach and his last job at a college was 'passing game coordinator' at university of the pacific (herro Division II) in 1989. He will not be coaching at a college anytime soon and especially any large conference one.

Because he has a mystique and a platform to stay in the public eye.

It is a little strange in light of how badly it went for him at Tampa Bay near the end. In some ways that flame-out reminds me of Ditka near the end in Chicago (and foretold the Ditka in NO experience)

yea, people saying Gruden is the best are crazy. he somehow got this rep after winning one super bowl and it is not at all justified. it really is just another example of "form over substance".

Y'all shitting on his Tampa championship seem to forget he was the Raiders coach when they went from total shite to being a tuck rule away from the super bowl one year to playing that Tampa team in the Super Bowl the next year with Bill Callahan as the head coach.

Give him his Raider credit.

Pretty charismatic guy, which means he has aptitude for recruiting. It's hard to believe he wouldn't be successful at any football powerhouse.

I think his personality/persona has more to do with it than his coaching record. However, For whatever reason he hasn't come back. He's said no to many offers, and every year that goes by reduces the odds to what they are today, nearly nil.
