The Texas mentality

I think a lot of you people are being trapped by a phenomena that frankly none of us in the SEC other than the Texas A&M fans have ever had to deal with. That is the mentality of the people who are the University of Texas.
It can be summed up in one small statement:
"We are Texas, you are not. We have more money than you. We have more prestige than you. Because we are Texas, we get what we want and what we say goes because we are Texas and you are not."
This is how the Longhorns think. Never mind the fact that their money advantage is not that much greater than other power schools, or that Texas isn't even the school with the most political clout in its own state (That would be Baylor), or that for a school to claims to get what it wants has a lousy athletic record for an all powerful overlord. They think they are Alabama football, North Carolina basketball, Stanford, Oxford, and Harvard all piled into one.
How does this apply here? Look how the leaks are worded. The Texas people are absolutely convinced that Saban is theirs because they want him. And they are Texas. So, since they are Texas and they want Saban, they get Saban because they are Texas and they get what they want.
Saban is smarter than that. Why the hell would he go to a school where its harder to win (history says it is) and harder to recruit to (at Alabama his recruiting rival is Auburn, at Texas not only does he have to worry about Texas A&M, but Oklahoma as well, not to mention good programs at other smaller BCS schools in the state..there are no Baylors or TCUs or Texas Techs in Alabama), and also is an administrative mess.
This is a combo of a Jimmy Sexton money grab and the arrogance that is the University of Texas.

I can't disagree with anything that you said

Yep. We all know that on this board. We're just here to enjoy the Bama rustle.

If you think Oklahoma or A&M would be stealing recruits from Saban at UT ur wrong
Posted on 12/11/13 at 8:11 am to sgallo3
Agreed. Texas would be easier to recruit to and easier to win at. Couple that with a huge payday......
Posted on 12/11/13 at 8:13 am to sbrian3915
Not one of your underlying assumptions is correct. That's quite an accomplishment.

Oh, so like Ole Miss, with oil money!
Gotcha!
Gotcha!

Sounds like Bama mentality, except Texas can actually back it up..

Just this morning, JC Schurbutt ranked Texas the top job from a recruiting standpoint.
UT alums have been building the war chest and very liable to do something totally stupid. With A&M's rise in the SEC and losing to Oklahoma again, their sense of entitlement makes them stupid dangerous right now.

Yep, pretty much sums it up
Thats why we laugh when some of you guys try to say that Bama is basically the "UT of the SEC"
Not even close

Reality, not perception:
Texas v Oklahoma since 2000:
Oklahoma has a 9-5 edge.
Oklahoma has scored 50+ 4 times in that span and has 1 shutout. In a series where they lost 5 games, Oklahoma still has outscored Texas in that span by an average of 32-21, and that is with 33, 18, and 16 point losses included in the 5 games that the Horns won.
With the perception of the recruiting, prestige, and financial edge that the Longhorns claim and the uneducated grant them, the numbers should be flipped.
