They are not yet available in Louisiana but looks like a interesting concept, esp. ones who are stuck in the same recipe/menu rotation:

I don't see the Satisfaction in pursuing this Approach. Cooking should have some semblance of Originality.
This just becomes an expensive, condescending, Box Dinner.

You sound pissy.

I know a couple people that do it and love it.

"Stuff in a box" is the trend of the moment. From Zingerman's "bacon of the month" and bread via mail to Besh Boxes, it seems like every damn body is into mailed food items. I don't want to receive meat, fish, or other higher $$ items via mail: I'd rather pick them out myself, thank you very much.

Seriously, the big hunk of cod on the intro screen bothers me. When I think local, fresh food, I don't think freakin' COD.

$10 per person, per meal? $8.99 buys me a pound of wild caught Gulf tuna at Hong Kong market.

I don't think you are getting the point and maybe you aren't the target audience.

It's clearly a good idea based on its success.

Interesting. I used to get groceries delivered via FreshDirect .. but that was during NYC winters when I didn't want to walk several blocks in the snow carrying groceries.

I'll always prefer to actually leave the confines of my house and go to the store / market and shop around & pick out what I'm going to be eating and cooking. Same thing with buying books or buying clothes - I prefer see first-hand and touch what I'm going to be buying, plus the interacting with human beings part of it is something I actually enjoy.

I wouldnt mind trying it for a few meals if available to see the quality. Like I mentioned it seems to be way to either get someone out of a rut or if someone is afraid of the kitchen to branch out a little more and try something new and good portion control.

$15/person/meal gets pricey quick. The primary reason I cook at home is to save money.

If you're stuck in a rut and want planned menus, look into Fresh 20. Fresh 20 gives you the recipes/lists only. No food. I tried it for a month. There were always a couple ingredients I had to sub due to availability, but overall it worked alright. In the end I didn't stick with it as it's geared more towards a family of 4, and I only have 2. Was too much food and too much of a hassle to size down.

I don't want meat/fish/veg portioned and packaged in a factory, then delivered to my house. It's industrial food, regardless of their fuzzy wuzzy marketing language about "best seasonal ingredients directly from farms, importers, and family-run purveyors." The founders' stated goal is to deliver millions of meals each month. Sounds like industrial food to me---only you still have to cook it yourself, LOL.

How is this not Sysco for the home kitchen? A commissary kitchen does the bulk prepping, and you do some final assembly at your house.

A whole bunch of these "meal kit" places exist--wasn't there one on the Northshore? Can't remember the name--you went into the facility and packaged up the pre-prepped ingredients, then took them home and cooked the food.

And don't Screw It Up after it gets delivered - or Fido gets an exhorbitant Box Dinner.
