In their zeal to tout their faith in the public square, conservatives in Oklahoma may have unwittingly opened the door to a wide range of religious groups, including satanists who are seeking to put their own statue next to a Ten Commandments monument on the Statehouse steps.

Greaves said one potential design involves a pentagram, a satanic symbol, while another is meant to be an interactive display for children ( ). He said he expects the monument, if approved by Oklahoma officials, would cost about $20,000.

I hope they succeed.

This. One of the state reps already called them nut jobs for wanting this. I think its nutty to think your religious beliefs should be touted over all others.

It will further his agenda of governmental collapse. Which for some reason he thinks is wonderful. Total anarchy sounds good eh?

Fair is fair.
If Christians can have their message on public grounds then so should every other belief if they want.
There is a solution that would prevent the satanists from doing what they want, but most Christians are unwilling to accept it.

What 'religion' do the Ten Commandments tout? Judaism? Christianity? Both?
I would have no problem with the satanists having a spot on the public square IF there was some satanist text included that has to do with laws. The Ten Commandments were an early set of laws. That's why they're displayed at courthouses.
They're not at the Post Office or the DMV, they're at the courthouse.

I say go for it too. It's silly to think one religious group has a right to do this over any others. Maybe they'll remove the original monument.

Some if the commandments are not modern laws in the USA. So it's clearly a religious thing.

Man if only there was some way to separate the church and state...

No shite.
That night I spent in the poky for saying 'god dammit' still haunts me.

Do you think a Jewish group lobbied for and funded the display in question?
While you are right in that the commandments are also a Jewish belief, in this case they are a Christian symbol. But you knew that already, you just wanted to be petty.

It is, (and I'm very far from being a satanist) but the truth is the truth.
If they were smart they would concede the ACLU case, tell them "my bad, you're correct", remove the commandments and make the forward policy "no religious symbols".
This is the only way to keep out the satanist.

I believe that not only should they be allowed to display right next to the ten commandments. If the government funded the 10 commandments, it should fund the satanist display.

Your point is irrelevant. It doesn't matter how many religions a symbol encompasses, only that it is a religious symbol. And if a religious symbol is allowed on public grounds then it needs to be open to the symbols of other religions.
do you agree or disagree with that?

quote:No. They are a symbol of legal heritage. If you'd like to assert that Hammurabi's Code should be there, you'd have some standing. The Satanist thing is off point and silly.
in this case they are a Christian symbol.
