St. Pete is better than Tampa in every conceivable manner.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. St. Pete has some very nice areas but I dont spend a lot of time there and will let someone else chime in about the St. Pete highlights.

Great post, great info. Sorry about USF
Ya'll can come by and say hello to Ron Cooper. Seeing as how USF wont be in a Bowl he should have some free time on his hands...

There's a Lightning game in Tampa on NYE. Lightning games are awesome, would be something cool to do before getting drunk for midnight.
I highly reocmmend this. I had never been to a hockey game before moving to Tampa. It's a great atmosphere. I just moved from Tampa last year. So of course LSU is planying there this year. Tampa is a great town and is well worth the trip.

How hard will tickets be to get before the game? Should I expect to be able to buy tickets from scalpers before kickoff like I do at TS? Tia

This. Went to a lightning/flyers game last season and it was a top 10 most fun sporting event I've ever been to. Considering I had no vested interest in it, that's saying something, the huge Tesla Coils on the Ceiling are alone worth the price of admission.

Berns is ok but save the money and go to Outback.
LMAO Dude is this a troll? What's the matter they didn't have enough ketchup for your Well Done steak at Berns?

If we were to stay in Clearwater, would that make it inconvenient to get to the bars/ restaurants in tampa etc.?

Clearwater has its own nice eateries and bar scene. Staying in Clearwater and going to and from Tampa could take anywhere from 20-45 minutes depending on what part of Clearwater you are in. For dining you'll have Frenchy's which is good casual dining plus Salt Rock Grill in nearby Indian Shores which is very highly regarded fine dining. Salt Rock may be arguably the best seafood restaurant in the Tampa Bay area. There is also a Columbia Restaurant location in Clearwater.

I'd skip Charlie's if at all possible. Sushi is also very good there in Tampa. I suggest Samurai Blue in Ybor or westchase areas. I also think there is another location. For those fans of Chicago deep dish, there is a Giordano's on Dale Mabry. Same one as the one in Chicago.

I'm not a big fan of Charlies but most folks do enjoy them. The citrus wood fired steaks do have a unique smokiness that I dont particularly care for. Their seafood offerings and wine list are pretty impressive though.

I live in Orlando. Another thing to do there is "Hard Rock Casino". It's a hugh casino, but the hotel rooms are expensive and will sell out soon. If you want to catch in some Disney stuff for New years Eve, the drive from Disney area to Tampa is not that far. About 60 miles.

Ocean Prime near International Mall is really good. The cucumber gimlet is my wife's favorite drink. Also try TC Choy's (Chinese/Asian) in SOHO. Bocca is really good as well. Damn I miss Tampa.

Really gone downhill, the place is a ghost town nowadays.

[quote]Spanish/Cuban.. The Columbia Restaurant has several locations but the Ybor location is the longest standing business in Tampa. The restaurant occupies a full city block and seats over 1,000 guests. Their Spanish cuisine is amazing and very reasonably priced. Attire is casual. [/quote
A must (Ybor City location) if you are in to great Cuban food. It is a bit pricy but they have a great selection of wines. Call ahead for reservations and request the main dining room and pay the extra to see the flamingo dance show.
You will not be disappointed.

When I first ate at Berns 20 years ago it was special. Now that there are so many "quality" top of the line steakhouses it has lost its luster to me but like many places, if you enjoy dinning in an institution you should enjoy the experience.
