I'm wondering why they punted earlier instead of letting Prater try a 57 yard fg. Dude has a huge leg and they're at Mile High.

Because they haven't been given the opportunity. If this wasn't at the end of the half they would have punted. It was a great kick, no question. But many others who could do the same - we will never know because the opportunity isn't presented.
