Says she wants a 9mm, but I am thinking more along the lines of a Ruger MKIII .22LR. Mix of home defense and target, leaning much more towards a target pistol IMHO. She was an Animal Control officer in CA, and had to qualify in the pistol course every year, so she can shoot at a 7/10 level.

Reliable
Fun to shoot
Cheaper to shoot
Not too expensive
Easy for a girl to handle
Can shoot a variety of ammo

Am I on the right track? Should I hit up a pawn shop, or buy new?

A full-sized 1911 wouldn't be too big for her hands?

Unless she's smaller than 5'3" 105lbs....

QueenRanch handles it just fine in the 9mm, .45, and 10mm variety.

Alright, I am gonna try and find a range with mid and full-sized 1911s for her to shoot. Her hands are about 1.5" shorter and about the same less wide than mine, so it is hard for me to guess the grip size for her.

Have. You ever been to Shooters Club in Harahan? I did my CCW shooting there, but that was it. Didn't rent anything

After looking for a while, I have come up with a few around the same price range(<$400)

ATI(GSG)
Colt
Sig

Should I still stick with the Sig? ATI seems to be a very similar gun from what I have read. Price difference is ~$75. Haven't heard anything bad about the Colt yet. Have you guys?

Why not get her a fun range gun that is ALSO a great self defense gun? There's no reason to not get her a 9mm, 40, or 45.

You know the drill for me...

Since you were talking up the TLR-1 so much, I picked one up from Amazon for $99. The lock up is super tight, and it's well built. If it holds up as well as I think it will, I don't think I'll be spending more than twice as much for a Surefire again.
