Best chance is probably going to be craigslist. I looked at a bunch of pull a part places around Baton Rouge and none of them had any trucks after '04. Took me a couple months to find one that wasn't $500+ but ended up getting one for $250.
Fwiw I have a ford and they trademark all their parts so there are no aftermarket tailgates for my year model. I'm pretty sure there is a place in Metarie that has aftermarket Chevy tailgates though.

That sucks. Cost a shite-ton through ford too. Gonna remember that the next time I'm in the market.
