We can have one every now and again right? It's Christmas time which is always a good time to play or at least get some board games. What's been everyone's favorite recently?

After only a few plays, this made a solid cube pusher much more interactive:

I also hope to get some plays of this over Christmas.

People should branch out, you're all missing out.

But yes I had Crossfire and it was awesome.

I just discovered this one a month or so ago. This game is fantastic. play to win, or play to cockblock your opponents from completing their routes. Just so much fun.

One of the better family games out there. Tons of fun.

I highly suggest getting the 1910 expansion. It really should be included in the box. It has a mode for 2 players, BIGGER CARDS for everything including all cards from the base game, and a Super Mega game for 4-6 that makes it outstanding. I don't play the game without it anymore.

And if this is your first of the new generation of board games, prepare yourself. That's usually what Ticket to Ride opens people up to.

Is also good. Gets slightly stale, but it has interesting mechanics.

I really want to get more into board games but they are often a tough sale for my wife and most of my friends don't seem interested at the moment. (It's also just hard to do stuff with my friends to begin with because of my young kids, but that's a totally different topic).

I plan to play more board games once my children get a bit older. As of right now, the only "designer" board games I have are "Ticket to Ride," "Last Night on Earth," and "Forbidden Island."

There are loads I'm interested in but there's no reason for me to buy them without a decent group to play with.

Not uncommon. Board games are tough because unlike Video Games you often can't play by yourself, and they are the same monetary investment, sometimes more. So the risk is greater with getting value out of it.

Good start.

Very true. I think there's an opportunity with most people to build interest through the easily digestible games like TtR and Forbidden Island. Find a mechanic or theme they really like. Then get something like 7 Wonders, Lords of the Waterdeep, Power Grid, etc.

People like games, they like competition, but sometimes you just have to lead them along.

I think this is true. Most people I know hear "board game" and think "boring game." But they can be a ton of fun and there's a physicality to board games and their pieces that you don't get with video games. It adds something to the experience

Shows like Wil Wheton's "Tabletop" has shown me how fun they can be and on the odd occasion when I've been able to get a group together to play something, everyone has seemed surprised by how into they game they got.

And contrary to popular belief, Boards and social interaction are uniquely intertwined, much more so than games.

Exactly.
