Has to be one of the best country albums of all time but I don't see it mentioned much on here. Just thought I'd bring it up in case anyone wants to check it out

The Brothers

Mobile Bay

Silver Eagle

Eta: Hag with the cigarette in his hand could you imagine Jason Aldean doing this?

I disagree with that statement all the way around.

#1 - Jones is not the greatest
#2 - Haggard is not behind

One is not ahead of the other, they are both great and in the top 5.

What?? How is it ridiculous? Jones charted over 150 songs and is widely considered the greatest country singer of all time. Let me know when Merle Haggard has top 10 songs for 5 decades.

And I know it's hard to say who is really the best, but in my opinion it's Jones. Hell even Haggard said Jones was the greatest ever.

Jones
Hank Williams
Haggard
Jennings
Cash
Buck Owens
Ernestt Tubb
Willie Nelson
Jim Reeves
Ray Price
Bob Wells
Roy Ackuff
Jimmie Rodgers

"If we could a sound the way we wanted to, we'd all sound like George Jones" - Waylon Jennings

They've all said that when the other one dies.

You do have a good list there. (Although some are misspelled.)

For my top 5 of all time, I'd probably have to go with Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, George Jones.

Didn't say I was ranking them, but only said they were my top five. But now that you brought it up:
Jones does come after Cash, Hank, & Merle and is right there with Waylon, with a tie.

Blasphemy, lol

At least we can all agree on which guys are at the top.

It's unfortunate how terribly tacky bad predictable country music is now. I'm lucky that I was brought up listening to country music that had emotion and passion.

Not many people my age (28) can appreciate that.

Eta
My dad's favorites were Lefty Frizzell, Ernest Tubb and.....
Merle Haggard

It's hard to narrow it down to a top 5 only. There's Lefty Frizzell & Buck Owens whom you've mentioned and there's Faron Young, Webb Pierce, Hank Snow, Charley Pride,

And some who came along a little later, Don Williams, Gene Watson, Don Williams, George Strait, & Hank Williams Jr. (mostly his earlier stuff)
Then there's the ladies: Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette...

I think the top five is the easiest part. It's filling in all the others that's tough because they're all good for their own reasons.

There's also Marty Robbins, The Louvin Brothers, and Ferlin Husky who were also influential.

Great thread as long as no one says Conway Twitty, Glen Campbell, or Kenny Rogers. First one who does gets RA'd.

Eta
No Ronnie Milsap either
