Due to the uneven number of teams included in the four geographic pots there will be a pre-draw. The four South American seeded teams will be placed in a Pot X. One of them will be drawn and one team from Pot 4 will be drawn, these two teams will be put in the same group. The European team will count as a Pot 2 team, making eight teams in all four Pots and keeping a maximum of two European teams in any group. The last three teams in Pot X will be returned to Pot 1, and the draw will then commence.

A bit of a surprise, they will have one Pot of 7 and one Pot of 9.

How long apart are the pot announcements? Is this an hour long press conference or what?

One European team will be randomly moved to Pot 2 prior to the draw.

They will immediately pair the European team moved to Pot 2 to pair with a seeded South American team from Pot 1. Gross.

Someone help me out here. What teams should we be scared of in pot 2. Which ones would be a good draw?
Posted on 12/3/13 at 10:06 am to BraveTiger225
So it is possible to get 3 European teams in a group?
Edit, nevermind

No. Since they won't let the European team be matched with a seeded Euro team. So worse case scenario looks like:
Brazil/Argentina
Netherlands/Italy/Portugal/England (one of these teams is moved to Pot 2).
USA
Netherlands/Italy/Portugal/England
Brazil/Argentina
Netherlands/Italy/Portugal/England (one of these teams is moved to Pot 2).
USA

I would love the idea of a completely random draw. Just put Brazil in Pot 1 and then draw everyone else.
Also, at this point, is Africa really rated higher as a confederation as CONCACAF or Asia? They had one of six teams advance out of the group stage last World Cup, while CONCACAF and AFC teams eached placed two in the knockout rounds.
You could make an argument that USA, Mexico, Japan and South Korea have had more combined success the past 20 years in the World Cup than the combined success of African countries.

-Once the groups have been determined for Pot 1, the four South American seeds will be placed into Pot X. Then, the European team moved to Pot 2 will be drawn into a group with one of those teams to avoid having Chile/Ecuador drawn against them.
I dont understand this. If there are 4 SA seeds, and 1 European team in pot 2. How is this stopping Chili or Ecuador from being drawn into one of the other 3 groups with SA seeds?

Probably more so to get that team out of the way.
I would imagine they will have many balls for each group A-H, then when a team is drawn, only throw in the applicable group balls into the bowl for drawing.
ETA: The European team must be drawn against a South American team to avoid having 3 European teams in the same group. I probably just worded it poorly. Will look for an official release later with the FIFA-ese on it.

Chile would put 10 past us.
Ghana fricks us all the time.
Cote D'Ivoire, Ecuador, and Cameroon are dangerous.

So look who was right about no groups with 3 UEFA teams.

A better explanation of the pre-draw:
quote:

FIFA actually summarized it pretty well here:
final draw
If we get Uruguay, Jozy won't see another minute at Sunderland
