How does Vegas do it?

O/U for the 2nd half of the Saints - Seattle game was 10 1/2 -140
I had 500 bucks on it ready to go but last second killed it because I couldn't have this shitty loss and lose my arse on the same night.
but HOW in the hell does Vegas know 10.5 is a good number. the bet just looks like the LOCK of the year. The entire world probably bet the over and Vegas is going to bank.

they have a lot of really smart people who know sports really well and other really smart people who can tall you all kinds of mathematical things about the game as well as individual teams, they also have other really smart people who have betting trends down to a science.

That really is absurd. They have stats though. Emotion tells you that the Saints will keep fighting. Vegas knows that Seattle makes teams quit in the second half, and that this game is over.

No you're wrong. Each team was 10.5. The total was 23.5

The lines are based on certain predictors and Vegas' feel for the market.
But you wanna know how they make their money, try this. You and a buddy get a bunch of 5s, 1s and quarters. Toss a coin, each person bets 5, winner gets his 5 back and 4.50 winnings, loser loses his 5, Vegas gets 50c. Repeat. Not hard to see where the money will end up.
