i know that losing hootie to bama stings. as did losing crob to bama. but we need to have a frank discussion about the perception of bama perpetuated by we LSU fans and how that impacts our recruiting.

bama do a stellar job at recruiting. but do you know who bama's second best recruiters are? LSU fans.

the jilted lover syndrome where LSU fans revere nick saban is pathetic. few discussions of LSU football and/or recruiting do not, at some point, refer to saban or bama as a "dynasty," "the greatest coach in history," "a recruiting juggernaut," etc.

saban and bama are good at what they do. i get it, you get it, we all get it.

but the constant and pervasive cow-towing to them creates a culture among LSU fans and recruits that bama is better than LSU. that isn't to say that i would fault the LSU fanbase when a recruit goes to bama, but when they're mulling over their decision, the zeitgeist out there that saban and bama are superior above all certainly does ring in their ears and can contribute to the impression that bama is the best place to go.

LSU puts more players into the NFL than any other SEC team. we win 10+ games, even when we underachieve. our coach has more wins against bama than any other in the country. we win championships, too.

why don't we start acting like we have some god-damned pride? all the best to hootie and crob, but the only time i'll give a shite about them now and in the future is if they flip to LSU or when we play bama.

Some kid who means nothing to me made a choice that has nothing to do with me.
I'd say I am over it except I never cared in the first place.
And that goes for about three other kids on the board all you guys are going moist over.

he's absolutely right though. Saban is not a god. He makes boneheaded decisions just like any other.

He's also not some recruiting god either. He's an excellent recruiter, yes, but it's supplemented by the Alabama mystique that we allow to continue.

Let's support our school and create our own LSU mystique instead of bashing it and slobbering all over our former coaches with every opportunity.

Solid post man. LSU fans do, unfortunately, add a lot to the perceived "mystique" of Alabama.

You mean that a small but vocal segment of our own fanbase constantly belittling our head coach and calling Saban a GAWD may play some small part in undermining LSU's recruiting efforts? Spot on in my opinion.

But those people think they're actually helping the program.

I feel like its anchored because its a stupid fricking thread. LSU is not the only school that plays Bama, nobody has had as much success against Bama as LSU in recent years, but for some reason people like the OP think that we are the reason that kids choose other schools. Give me a break.

It's definitely some of the fault of LSU fans that Bama has beaten us 3 straight times and won 3 of the last 4 national titles.

Way too much logic here for our fans as some like to:
1. Complain about our program and our coaches
2. Act like the red team to the east is invincible
3. Create this "The Firm" (REC) like mystique relative to how the red team to the east recruits players from Louisiana.
4. Intentionally/unintentionally fawns over our former coach
5. Bitches about an 18 year old kids decision to go play for the same red team to the east, failing to recognize that their actions, in some small way, are serving to further promote the red team and give our fan base a bad reputation as a bunch of illogical crazed maniacs.

I appreciate your comments. The thread more aptly should be posted on the rant in order to reach the intended audience.

at no point did i say anything remotely close to the words that you've put in my mouth. but if you think that fawning over how great our former coach is and voicing that he has no equal helps LSU in any way, then bless your little hearts.

and, accordingly, i've RA'ed to move the topic to another board (the Rant).

Yep. LSU fans personally didn't recruit Cam and Hootie hard enough, LSU fans drove LC to Bama, LSU fans called the plays on 1/9, LSU fans are the root of all evil.

But its just LSU fans. No other fan base throws kids under the bus for big losses, for choosing other schools, or anything of the sort. Yep, LSU fans are directly responsible for Alabamas success.

The OP can RA the thread to the Rant, hopefully the RA to delete wins out.

I think the unfair criticism Les Miles receives does have a negative effect on some instate recruits.

Kind of ridiculous considering how well he is loved by those in the program.

RATeamWannabe, my pillow will be soaked through with tears tonight.

it's delusional of you to posit that the overall zeitgeist has no impact on recruits. does it affect the outcome of games? absolutely not. but what it does is create an environment where a recruit's overall impression is flavored by both the bama and LSU fanbases in the direction of bama being a better destination, whether or not that is the case for a particular recruit.
