I live in Dothan but work in Marianna, Fl. I just passed through Campbellton, which is just below the state line and saw a hawk sitting on the power line with a hood on and things tied to its leg. Do y'all have some kind of network where you could get someone who is missing a bird, info about where it is? I'm sure someone is missing it.

What? It was wearing a hood? Are you sure?

One of the FL guys reported seeing one in that area last week wearing anklets and jesses (the dangling leather straps) but not a hood. Nobody seems to know anything about it though. It's possible it was lost up north somewhere and has migrated. He tried to call it down, and then tried to trap it. Neither worked. Was the hawk you saw mature - did you see a red tail?

Also, thanks for letting me know. I contacted someone who is trying to take care of it.

I know for a fact it was wearing the straps. It caught my eye and I was doing 65 so I might have imagined the hood. If it helps, tell them it was right after you go through Campbellton, when the speed limit jumps to 65 going south on the right, by the first cotton field past the park on 231.

ETA: I didn't see if it had a red tail, but it was definitely a mature bird. We'll over 1 ft. tall.

Thanks. I contacted the guy that first reported it, and he was already out trying to trap it. He's apparently been after it for a couple of weeks. It's been reported to the officials. Hopefully he'll catch it eventually and either get it back to its owner, or cut off the gear and release it. It's apparently doing well because it's been flying around down there for a while now.

In that part of the country, I'm guessing the hood was a pointy white one? Amirite?
