Amazing piece on Amazon and it's future.

And they got to reveal their exclusive Package Drone Deliveries to the world.

Still 3-4 years away, but Amazon already has Drones to deliver packages in 30 minutes within 10 miles of fulfillment centers.

Didn't know they are delivering groceries same day in a few cities, too.

Nobody sees the potential danger in this? There are hackers already in this world if they could get their hands on a drone.

other than one crashing or delivering goods to the wrong place, no

Then what? They'll install weapons on it and attack something?

The Air force would jet missile that thing with a quickness if it was hacked and turned on US citizens. I'm not afraid of annoys getting a drone...

I wonder how they will do in the grocery business in NYC. Fresh direct has a strong position here. Although delivery is next day

It was a good piece. That said, isn't their some legislation currently that the only drones that can fly US air space are those of the gov't?

Yea they are waiting on FAA approval. I would take a few shots at one if I saw it.

More amazing to me was their warehousing system.

It's a mess!! And seems completely unorganized, grouping items based on their size/shape.

Yet it's easy to them.

Is this a cost effective delivery method? I would imagine they will need drone pilots as well as software costs and fuel costs. This sounds like a great self-promotion piece by Amazon right before Cyber Monday and 60 minutes took the bait hook, line, and sinker. I also forgot to mention liability when one of these drones crashes into a house. This is total nonsense and B.S. in my opinion.

They won't need pilots. That's why they're still a few years away...they are working on all of the safety features. He specifically said it would be bad if it landed on someone's head.

The drone is small and electric, so fuel won't be a big deal and it's a "green" fuel. The drone can carry anything 5 pounds or less, which he said accounts for 86% of their sales.

I don't know if it will ultimately work, but I applaud them for thinking outside the box. When I want to buy something, I often want it right then. Especially if it's not a major purchase like a TV or something I research a lot. If you can get it to me at my house 30 minutes after I click send, then you are saving me time and effort from going out to get it.

That kind of thinking is what keeps companies on top. Their current model is good, but sooner or later someone will do it better. The CEO was very aware of this as he said all companies eventually fail. It's his job to delay that as long as possible. I don't completely agree that all companies have to fail. As long as you evolve and follow the customer then you can stay relevant. The problem is most companies are unwilling to evolve because it's too hard or costs too much.

Maybe this is the venture that turns Amazon an actual profit.

Good info. Perhaps it will work. The only point I don't agree with is the electric power as it will still cost them a ton to charge all of those things.

Those little things could get a charge from a solar powered recharge station pretty easy. I would imagine that is the smallest logistical problem they have. Like Bezos said, falling from the sky and hurting someone is probably the biggest hurdle along with FAA rules.
