Holiday-to-Davis the 5th most successful tandem as of now.

Insider article:
quote:

Something tells me this won't be the last time the 6-foot-10 flying squirrel will appear on this list. The 20-year-old Davis has bloomed alongside Holiday this season even though Holiday hasn't been able to find his mark with his own shot. Davis' biggest gains this season have come in the midrange, where he's shooting 39 percent compared to 29.4 percent last season. The more he stretches the floor, the fewer Zzz's opposing coaches will enjoy.

Despite all the ball handlers on the Pelicans, the offense falls apart when Davis tries his hand without Holiday on the floor. Davis averages just 14.7 points per 36 minutes with Holiday riding the pine compared to 21.2 points per 36 minutes with Holiday feeding him. The key? Davis' shot attempt rate skyrockets when Holiday enters the picture. With Holiday locked in until 2016-17, this partnership is just getting started.

Coming in number 5 with less than 20 games together is pretty good(although CP3 and JJ clock in #3)

I've only been able to watch in bits and pieces the last few weeks, but one thing that seems to be missing is Davis driving to the basket. Is he still doing that regularly? Early on it was one of his more reliable skills.

His dribble drive is UN friggin stoppable. It hasn't happened enough for me. Why they don't give AD the ball on the wing and let him go to work is beyond me. They are too busy playing duck duck goose at the top of the key trying to get Jason Smith a shot. Somebody on that coaching staff has gotta be smart enough to see this if the fans can see it.

Mason over at BSS did a nice breakdown of the new camera data and one of the things he found was:

quote:

Jason Smith receives the 26th most “elbow touches per game” in the NBA with 5.6 - that is, touches that originate within the 5 foot radius nearing the edge of the lane and free throw line & inside of the 3-point line. That number is just 0.5 per game behind team leader Anthony Davis, and comparable to players such as Kevin Garnett (5.7/game) & Carmelo Anthony (5.6/game). That may be Jason Smith’s best shot, but in some situations it should possibly be called upon later in the progression of a possession than it is.

I need to check on BSS more frequently.

BTW, I met one of their guys at the Cleveland game and, for the life of me, I can't remember his name. csb
