Question for those who hunt out of a mud boat

I hunt out of them occasionally, but down in Venice where you can just ram the boat into the canes. What do you do in the marsh with no canes? Just pull up against a bank with a pop up blind? I'm talking about places like Biloxi marsh/reggio/delacroix.

We have our mud boat set up with pvc frames and fast grass attached to it. That way all we have to do is run it up on a bank and pop the blind frames up(adding some natural coverage as well).

I hunt areas of ponds where i can pull between a fingerlet and a bank or behind islands and make a drive in blind with natural cover and then use a pop up blind.

What if your only cover is thigh high marsh grass like in Biloxi marsh?

I have a homemade popup blind with avery realgrass. With a little spraypaint, it blends in very nicely. The key is to keep it low profile, so that it blends in with grass that isn't that tall. Ill put up a pic.

You have to build a blind that you can pull the boat into. Drive some posts in the marsh and use 2x4's to build a frame. Bundle an arm full of rozo canes, zip tie the middle, cut the bottom. Attach the brush to the outside of the frame and you have a boat blind. Keep it as low as possible.

Cut some small shrubs, stick them in the ground lining them up in the front and back of you, then lift the marsh grass to lean up against the shrubs. You can obviously do the same to the sides but leave one side open for an entrance. We use a pirogue when hunting this type of blind and just sink it or cover it in marsh grass.

I dont hunt from the boat in biloxi marsh. The ground is more solid then other places. I park the boat away from ahere i am hunting and pirogue in. Then i sit on the waters edge up against some of the taller grasses/ bushes and i'll usually bring a cut piece of brush from the road on the drive in and put it between me and the sun.

This is what I used to do. Birds start to flair if you build to high of a blind. Two milk crates zip tied together make a great seat for the marsh too!
