Does anyone know if there is a way to get access to this canal. From my understanding you need a pass. I would like to start using this canal to get to my winter time fishing spots. It will save me 15-20 minutes of boat riding.

You can check with the Tide Water guys but I doubt you'll get a pass. I really don't know though.

I was thinking about calling them today but I wanted a little more info so they don't laugh in my face.

I once had to use the canal on the way back in during a storm and the guard was going ape shite, I just smashed the throttle and blew by him

Good luck with that. Just get used to your boat ride. Calling them is almost certainly a waste of time.

You can own a canal that was privately dredged if you own all the surrounding land

Yea I understand since they maintain the canal but I just don't see the harm in a bay boat running down it for 5 minutes to get to another canal

They are paying taxes on that water...along with the marsh around it.

Most fishermen don't like it, but it is what it is. I hear the fishing in that area is fantastic because of the limited access.

I talked to a guy sunday that runs a big duck lease area that is getting ready to gate off a pretty big area of prime fishing(at least the canals anyway).

his gripe... people going fishing through where his duck hunters are and a bowfishing operation running around all night running ducks out...
from what I understand they have filed charges against the bowfishing guy for trespassing..

Can't blame the guy

If you're leasing the land for duck hunting, I don't want some guy fishing 100yds from my pond

We deal with this a bit but for the most part the fisherman have enough sense to GTFO when they notice we're hunting

Im very careful of the hunters back there. I know where the duck leases are and avoid them.

The fishing is great back there I just hate the long run I have to make to get there

no... not when I saw them at the launch later that day....

I am 6'1" both were shorter than me....

about 5 of the guys that were in leases with and next to us.. were there... they heard what happened saw em at launch running their mouths about waiting for me.. they waited to see the show...

they warned em.....

first one popped off right in my face... second as he was driving away....

The issue I have is not owning the water but the fish that are in the water are our natural resource and are not owned by anyone. If you block off the canals making a pond so be it, but as long as they come an go they are my resource that I as a taxpaying citizen have every right too!
