I'm not sure what to make of this game, frankly. I've seen a painfully embarrassing small sample of Carolina Panthers football this year - but it seems like on paper their strengths match up well with how you'd ideally like to attack the Greatriots.

Then again, Bill Belechick and Brady have had 2 weeks to prepare for this contest, and you feel like if BB is a 10 as a head coach, Chico Rivera is like a 4 (even with his recent Riverboat Ron transformation).

My prediction: A patented last-minute Tommy Brady drive and FG by Gostkowski to win it at the buzzer.

Patriots 24
Panthers 23

Not a divisional game for Pats. Coming off blowout win, pats will come out flat on the road.

As much as I hate this, panthers will roll.

About how I feel. Panthers are a very good team and with the Saints winning yesterday, this game is a must win for them to keep pace to attempt to win the division.

Pats are playing for a first-round bye w best coach/qb combo perhaps ever. Coming off a bye no less. yall act like theyre kitty litter already

CAR is pretty one-dimensional like the 49ers, think the pats can scheme Newton.

Carolina defense + Pats lack of offensive playmakers == Panthers stay on Saints' heels

Here's some thoughts from lofty nugget-chucker Peter King:

quote:

Patriots 20, Panthers 16. There’s a lot to like about the Panthers’ defense, which is allowing a league-low 12.8 points a game and is coming off a stifling of the 49ers. But that San Francisco contest was the first “welcome to relevancy” game the Panthers have played in a while, with a nation’s eyes on them, and now they have to do it again against a team and quarterback that are experts at these high-profile affairs. With Shane Vereen’s return adding to the weaponry, I like Tom Brady to outplay Cam Newton, who has posted a couple stinkers in a row (56.5 completion percentage, one touchdown, three interceptions).

Panther's defense is obviously exceptional, but NE has been playing good defense too. Meanwhile, New England is also one of the better offenses in the league while Carolina not as good. I'll take Tom Brady to make the difference in this game.

Carolina is coming off a huge hard fought road win against San Francisco, the Patriots are coming off a bye.

Chances are greater the Panthers come out flat, if they get behind early, it could get ugly.

Carolina's D is stout, but Brady and the newly revitalized Gronk will find ways to score. Carolina's lack of real offensive weapons will be VERY obvious early in the game; I don't think we see much from them until maybe the 4th qu when they start to realize they're about to lose.

Panthers try to come back, fall short. 28-14

If they win this game, the Patriots are playing for the #1 seed next week. It's a huge game for them despite being out of the conference.

hoping for a NE win.

but if you look at the games that the Pats have lost, they have come to teams with tough front sevens on defense.

also both of their losses have come on the road.

if this game was in NE, I'd say they win without a doubt. But I just don't think this is a good matchup for the Pats.

I need the Pats to win and shut down the Panthers.

It helps the Saints, and it helps me win my fantasy match up this week.
