Xbox One TV Integration suffers same fate

Xbox One has intrigued me since it was first announce that you could seamlessly transition between tv and your games with just a few voice commands. I know other companies have tried before to win over cable/satellite providers, but no one with the power and money of Microsoft.
However, if you are familiar on how the new Xbox One tv integration works. You will soon realize that the cable/satellite providers still wont play ball. So the Xbox One is relegated to being a fancy universal remote, that can easily be locked out.
IR blasting with the kinect sensor is and was their only option, and is how the Xbox One controls your set top box. Obviously the down side is that your kinect sensor must be in the same room as your set top box, so media closets are a no go.
Sadly while this will work for a while as most set top boxes hold on to legacy IR support. You will definitely see a move towards providers going strictly to some sort of Encrypted RF signals for their remotes, completely locking out the Kinect.
Maybe Microsoft is hedging their bets that will come to an agreement with some cable/satellite providers in time before customers start changing hardware. But I cant see that without them coming to some sort of revenue agreement where providers are guaranteed a portion of sales from rented movies/advertisements/etc.. This seems like the only option
Or Microsoft other option is to become a provider themselves, however this entails a lot of politics and they would have to be a streaming only service. With companies like Comcast now owning the content, this seems very unlikely.
TL;DR
TV integration is flawed from the start and will be killed by satellite and cable providers.
No real path to fix it due to the current market.
Not just a Microsoft problem.

Please explain to me how exactly feeding my cable box through the XBone causes the cable company to lose any revenue.

Because instead of them controlling the screen, Xbox One will integrate it into their overall interface.
There is little doubt that Microsoft wont be advertising their own movie rental and app services over your television providers current offerings.

Makes zero sense
Does your current set top box remote use RF or IR?
I know the Hopper box is RF, and so was my previous DirecTV box.

Link? I would like to read the rest of the article.
And I've had both Cox and U-verse, Both ISP's supported the Xbox 360 cable box bypass.
Nobody really used it because it was kind of a hassle. But I Xbox One to be much more polished, due to that fact it was built for TV integration.
And IMO TV providers would see it as a positive and push the Xbox One instead of trying to avoid it.

When I watch TV, I will still see all of the commercials from my cable company.

Cant argue with that, but one only has to look at the current offerings from DTV and Dish. They are generally regarded to be at the forefront of set top boxes, and now have their own ON-Demand services as well as apps.
I dont believe they will give up a future revenue stream easily. Even though we can all agree that there are much better services out there.

Not trying to be difficult here, but if my cable box is running through the XBone, I can access both XBone and Cable Box On Demand Services, just like I can if the cable box were NOT running through the XBone.
I actually intend to try feeding my receiver through the XBone to see if it will work. I don't see why it wouldn't. Hell MS has already confirmed that you can pass the PS4 through the Xbone, although I don't know why you would do that.

I agree but if the cable provider can easily lock out the xbox, so you can't access their rental service at the same time. Why wouldn't they? Everyone knows cable companies are charging outrageous amounts.

I would assume you could run anything with an hdmi signal through the xbone. It's just a pass through correct?

BINGO!!!!
Thank you!
Finally someone understands what Sony is doing > Microsoft.
Sony TV is the future. The Viacom deal was just step 1.
Not surprised people downplay or don't understand how huge it is that Sony already has this on the way WITH a major network deal in place to stream live TV along with the shitload of huge movies Sony Pictures owns.
Even for TV, the PS4 is your better option in the future.

This would cause a shitstorm greater than what the Xbox poses. This would cause a disruption in both the consumer and commerical world(i.e. restaurants/bars, etc.) that use Harmony remotes, RF transmitters, etc. etc. to control their media.
It could happen because cable companies are dicks, I just don't think we will see it.
