As a Dallas native, I've been inundated with the Kennedy assassination my whole life. As the 50th anniversary approaches, I can't help but feel bothered by the celebration of the gross public murder of a poltical figure and our morbid obsession with it. I find it macabre and disturbing.

This article sums up my feelings exactly:

I'm equally bothered by the Boomer comments at the end of the article that pooh-pooh the article on the sole basis that because the author (and more than half of the American population) didn't live through it, we can't criticize the media shoving these images down our throats every chance it gets as if the '60's were the only relevant decade of the last century.

Thoughts? Comments?

Ironically, the author of this piece brought up in their article exactly why Kennedy's assassination should be remembered as it is. That moment in time changed history forever.

This was my parent's generation's 9/11. And it wasn't just a "political figure". It was the President of the United States. There are plenty of people still alive who did live through it and it's still worth discussing. I won't deny that the media has probably gone overboard at times.

And it's just as hilarious coming from EW of all places.
