Covington beat a good team pretty soundly. I'm impressed.

West Monroe 20
Denham Springs 17

Denham Springs had a great gameplan and great intensity. They played their hearts out. WM scored on a pass to the TE with :42 left to win the game. Central at WM next week.

This is not a high school football board. This belongs on the msb.

some pretty good looking matchups in the 2nd round. I think the ehret and dutchtown game could be interesting. Tough running game of ehret vs. a younger defense in dutchtown. Dutchtown has gotten stronger and stronger all year.

Another matchup I like for a closer than expected game is East St. John vs. Parkway. ESJ has some good athletes that could give harris and parkway some issues. I don't think ESJ can win in a shootout, but if their secondary plays a good game they'll have a shot here. It's a more dangerous game than most people think.

I haven't seen Ruston at all this year, but they really had a nice opening round game. Destrehan is the best 5a team I've seen this year, but who knows how they react to adversity on the field if Ruston can play them close early on?

Covington may have had the most eye opening performance in the 1st round. They can really test East Ascencion. I'm surprised how well EA has performed without Palelei, but I think all of the ascension teams were a bit overrated coming into the playoffs. St. Amant already fell. This is a dangerous game for EA. They have played well all year.....I just believe there are some teams ranked behind them much stronger. Don't get me wrong, they should be favored against Covington and have earned their spot, I just think they are the most likely top 8 team to fall outside of New Iberia.

I expect WM to bounce back in a stronger performance against B.R. central. They'll need to, Central is much stronger than denham. I just think the experience of WM in the postseason is such an advantage still.

We really didn't learn much about New Iberia in the 1st round. I just think West Jeff is awful...they did what they had to do against them. Zachary was in one of the more exciting 1st round games against a very capable thibodaux team. I have not seen either team play this season. I have no idea on this one.

Acadiana vs. Ponchatoula.....I just can't see this one being close in any way. Acadiana's system works and they are a strong football team. Too strong of a team for Ponchatoula to contain I'm afraid.

Barbe vs. Hahnville.....I believe this will be another blowout. Hahnville's running game is pretty good with simmons and keller, but if they fall behind they won't be able to keep up. Barbe is just too explosive in my opinion. Hahnville traditionally prides themselves on defense......they'll have to have their best defensive performance of the year to stand a chance.

Ruston doesn't have the offense to stay with Destrehan. Their defense is pretty good, but Destrehan should win going away.
