This was the record-breaking catch.

I predict that he will end up being "the favorite Tiger" for many. Great kid with high character, humble, unselfish attitude with an unsurpassed work ethic on the field. Loves the game of football and as of now, wants to coach it after his playing days are over.

Many of you will admire his extraordinarily modest personality which counters the narcissistic personalities among many of today's athletes.

Most may not know but Trey is also 12 catches away from surpassing the national receptions record as well. Barbe is guaranteed 1 more game. As a Barbe alum I hope they continue winning, but if not here's to him getting the 12 catches in their game against Hahnville next week.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

The Catch
Quinn-essential
Bucs WR grabs national record
By Albert Burford

aburford@americanpress.com ?
Barbe wide receiver Trey Quinn became the high school football player with the most receiving yards ever in a career as the Bucs took care of South Lafourche 42-16 at Buccaneer Stadium Friday night in a Class 5A bi-district playoff game.

Quinn eclipsed Dorial Green-Beckham’s mark of 6,356 yards on a contested 26-yard catch from quarterback Kennon Fontenot in the third quarter. After the catch, which Quinn made on the edge of the Barbe (9-2) sideline, the future LSU Tiger was mobbed by teammates.

“It’s emotional. I’m getting chills right now talking about it,” Quinn said. “I never thought I would get that emotional in a game. To see the people I’ve grown up with come hug me after that, it’s unreal.”

Quinn’s nine-catch, 216-yard effort against the Tarpons (5-6) brought the national record to 6,396 yards.

“It’s playoff time and our main focus is getting a ring,” Quinn said. “As soon as we got that record out of the way, our eyes are on one prize and one prize only. It’s good that we got it in the first round and now we can move on.”

Barbe went to Quinn on the first play from scrimmage for a 67-yard touchdown pass to put the Bucs ahead 7-0, but South Lafourche responded quickly with two touchdowns.

Tarpons running back Jake Williams caused all sorts of problems for the Barbe defense early on, rushing nine times for 68 yards and a score before an injury sidelined the senior for the remainder of the game.

“That killed us,” said South Lafourche head coach Dennis Skains. “The offense just doesn’t run the same without him. He’s a special football player and he’s going to be missed next year. I hate that it ended like that for him.”

Barbe scored five consecutive touchdowns after falling behind 14-7 and didn’t allow another offensive touchdown.

“We just picked up the intensity on defense,” he said. “Our kids decided they wanted to start playing. You’ve got to give credit to South Lafourche — they came out and were playing with more intensity the first couple of series, but our kids responded well.”

Quinn finished with three receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Fontenot completed 21 of 31 passes for 353 yards and five touchdowns and became the fourth quarterback in Louisiana high school football to surpass the 10,000-yard career passing mark.

“It’s a tribute to them. It’s not us, it’s nothing we did,” Cutrera said. “Those guys are great athletes. They’re not worried about those records, they want to win.

“Our main concern was to win the game. The records happened, which was great. Those two guys are remarkable.”

Barbe will travel to Hahnville next week.

“We’ve ended many a season in Hahnville,” Cutrera. “We’re looking to change that luck and go down there and have a good showing.”

Bucs senior receiver Trey Quinn reaches back to pull the ball away from South Lafourche’s Justin Doucet for a 26-yard completion from quarterback Kennon Fontenot during the third quarter of a Class 5A bi-district playoff game Friday night at Barbe High. With the catch, Quinn broke the national record for yards receiving in a career, breaking the mark of Dorial Green-Beckham (2011), now at Missouri. Twelve more catches and he’ll break the national record for career receptions.

Yes, can make sideline acrobatic catches that make you stand up, hands in the air saying how in the hell did he catch that AND will make the tough catches over the middle sandwiched between two defenders unafraid to take a hit. Reminds me a lot of Josh Reed. Although, once his playing days are over at LSU, I'm certain that he will be the one to which future athletes will be compared.

Keep it up Trey!! Kid will play lots if not start next year. I know sec competition is nothing like high school, but with him playing as a freshman and probably not someone with freakish measurable to leave for NFL early, he may break receiving records at LSU.

He's got about the same measurables as the two guys you are saying are leaving early this year.
