Americans like constant tv commercials during their sports.

not enough goals
offsides is somehow too hard to grasp
"how could a game that ends 0-0 be entertaining?"

i think all these are just excuses to point to. Hockey is similar to many of these criticisms, but has been a fairly constant presence in US sports for decades.

you can also body check people through plexiglass, and knock their teeth out in a fight and not get ejected.

Soccer has more finesse and subjectivity but also more pussification.

I'm going to hide this here instead of starting a new thread but I just met Alex Morgan and talked to her a bit. I love my job.

As I am a recovering soccer hater from a little over 7 years now I think it is mainly because people just think a 1-0 or 0-0 game can't be entertaining without actually watching the sport. I know that was my opinion before I actually starting watching club soccer, world cups, and league tournaments. It could also just be the fact that Americans haven't been great at it historically.

Yep.

Whenever I watch with my friends, most of whom aren't fans, they tend to enjoy it, but they still have to find a way to bash it somehow for the "countless" flops and fake injuries or by questioning how any part of it is exciting unless a goal is scored. This happens less now that they watch more soccer, though.

nailed. it. on. the. head.

Americans, in general, have to short of an attention span. If you like soccer, count yourself among the enlightened.

I'd say it varies from person to person. But I often get the impression is that some Americans don't like it cause it is a sport dominated by European countries. Many Americans think countries like England and France are filled with pussified gentleman so when they think soccer they think fairy arse euro dudes.

A lot of people hate nil-nil draws though too. And according to that one poster, American soccer fans "cheer the wrong way" which I'm still not sure what that even means.

Not enough scoring

Takes too long to develop; too much strategy

It has been primarily foreign; viewed with xenophobia

I don't know maybe things would start to change if you had an American that was a world class player and became a household name like Peyton Manning or Lebron James.

I usually have NBCSN on Sat mornings in the restaurant i work, and while the regulars where initially bitching about not being to watch Gameday or some shitty 11 am CSUA CFB game, they have now started to notice teams they like and players and are always asking about the rules, etc...

exposure would turn alot of heads, and having a real american hero being the face of some international league would def spark that here. but i think in the next 3-4 years, this NBC deal will really start having an effect.

Americans are finally being exposed to the top level of the game. This has only been going on for about 5 years. It is a great sport and all people love watching top competition and great athletes.
