We bought a 5th of Makers Mark for double the cost of what you would pay in Louisiana at a little package store right off of campus. WTF? Are the taxes that high in Alabama?

If by fleeced, you mean got shite hammered and cracked a few ribs over an ice chest, then yes, I got totally fleeced.

My Step MIL had a bottle of Woodford for me when I got there, so I didn't have to buy my whiskey. Of course, I did shell out $220+tax for a bottle of JWB for a bet with my FIL, but I bought that in Texas.

Always buy booze at the ABC store if you've got to buy it.

I remember at the 2001 SEC CG, before the game we were buying single 22 ozs at this little walk up sandwich place and everytime I walked to the counter the price had gone up. It went from like $4 ea. to $10 ea. by the time we went into the game.

If you didn't buy liquor in Louisiana and bring it with you, you have nobody to blame but yourself. The ABC stores are the way to go in Alabama though, they're far cheaper than any other liquor stores.

The liquor stores buy from the ABC store at about the same price as retail and then resell during off hours. Yes we have high taxes on booze. People in Alabama never leave LA without loading up. You have some of the cheapest booze in the country.

Stock up in Louisiana or Mississippi before you cross into Alabama. The alcohol tax in Tuscaloosa is really steep. If you have to wait til you're in Tuscaloosa, only go to ABC, as the on campus liquor stores gouge the prices even more.

Yes. They're something like 40%. I buy all my liquor in LA or FL.

That wasn't an abc store Package stores buy from state abc stores in Alabama . In fact every business that has a liquor license must buy from ABC in bama. I bought a large bottle of Pinnacle in Baton Rouge on Thursday for 15 bucks that would cost 21 dollars at bama abc. The package stores would charge in bama 35 dollars . Louisiana has some of the lowest liquor priced In he country
