I would like to have a cajun anchor that's much heavier than the ones they sell and don't want to spend $100+ for a SS rod. Any advice?

I made one with a SS rod and shackle I bought off amazon for about $60. Damn rope popped on me when in a strong current and lost it. Just bought a SS one at academy for $79 a few weeks ago. that is heavy as hell!

For deeper water and when fighting current/waves.

A regular marsh pole will work fine....

From experience, no it won't.

Won't stick when fighting a strong current.
Won't stick when fighting 1ft seas in 9ft water.

Fill an aluminum one with sand and seal it.

What do you have a cheap, light duty one? I've used one when the current was booking at the rock jetties and it did fine.

How deep do you plan on using it?

You may should get a regular anchor?

buddy of mine had one in his 21' Lakesport. Damn thing would hold the boat in Manchac Pass in 16' of water. Was only about 4' long but filled with melted wheel weights.

Sounds like it. Just a regular 5' from West Marine.

We normally stay in the 4-5 ft range around Chauvin/Cocodrie, but we make the run out to the wellheads in Lake Barre occasionally. It wouldn't hold for longer than 5 minutes when in the 9ft range with 1ft seas.

We have one. I'd just rather have one cajun anchor that does it all.

We made one out of stainless rod and it works great. The first one was attached with a carabiner, some how it unhooked itself on the rocks of the mrgo dam.

my only advice is not to use a carabiner for attachment.
