I know you're supposed to severe the brain stem and an edged weapon might be better for Close quarter combat, but would a .22 be sufficient?

Just slide a blade in their earhole

Signed Carol

I'm thinking in the ear may do it. Don't know if a .22 to the eye would get there

I haven't seen world war z, but I read the book. I had walking dead zombies in mind. I need to catch up on season 4.

Not consistently. Would you want a .22LR if your back was against the wall?

this may be the most legit OB question ever

1. it would have to a head shot

2. it would have to have enough force to penetrate the frontal lobe and damage the parietal lobe as to disable movement in the zombie, (if movement in the zombie brain is not dictated by the the parietal lobe, go ahead and scratch this)

3. the ammo that is being used, well.. we can go on forever, the type of grain (60, 40, 36, etc.), then we got FMJ, hollow point, rat shot, those hyper velocity hollow point (which i don't really know the difference)

4. The gun in question.. pistol or rifle?

5. The zombie in question, because zombies are not real and we don't have anything to base specific variants off of.. well, this is all kinda pointless

that being said, at close range.. rat shot will probably be my answer, (depening on the zombie), with a Sig. At long range good ol' 10/22 with anything about 36g and well placed shots should do the trick, (whether it be a FMJ or hollow point)

I wouldn't turn it down if I had nothing else.

.22s have excellent penetration but don't transfer much energy. Where a larger bullet may be able to have a little more cushion on shot placement, I think a well placed shot would do the trick.

As it would be for every other caliber.

.22lr is perfect for zombies. Doesn't splash infected brains everywhere. Can carry thousands of rounds on you. Low recoil doesn't hinder quick following shots.

If you can stab a knife through a zombie head, you can definitely penetrate a zombie skull with a .22.

Also, the quieter shot wouldn't attract many more zombies from the area. Thinking a keltec pmr 30 with a silencer would be clutch.

A .22LR pistol is my preferred backup when I'm out on a zombie hunt. I actually carry two backups, the other being a Taurus Judge. Some consider it overkill, but imo you can't be too careful in zombie country and my Bushmaster is prone to jamming at inopportune times. When I'm hunting high fence zombies I only carry the .22.

A .22lr can kill anything but you would be better suited with a 12ga, .223 or 7.62x39.

Well I'm late to this party. All of the good points have been made. Anybody know about bone degradation? I would be the skull isn't as strong as a living person's so that increases the .22's capabilities if that is so. I would like a 1911 sidearm chambered for .22 in this scenario. More, quieter shots.
