J. Thomas for Kaep/James?

I have this offer coming to me. Kaep is my backup QB and James is my flex. Would it be better to have Thomas in the flex ROS or James? My current TE is Gronk so Thomas would strictly be a flex play.
10 team standard league.
UPDATE: There's a chance that with J. Thomas I could trade Thomas/Amendola for Lynch. The ultimate result being Lynch would be my flex player and I don't lose a single starter aside from James, my former flex play.

I think I'd keep James. J thomas is a good TE fantasy wise, but I'd go with the guy who gets the most touches.

This is what I'm thinking too. Just wanted to confirm my gut feeling.

Trade and then trade james/gronk for a legit flex player
Good tight ends are hard to come by

This isn't a bad idea. Only catch is our trade deadline is this Sunday so it would have to be done in a hurry.
I would only be willing to trade Thomas though, it's a keeper league and I got Gronk cheap.

Ok since getting this advice, I may have a shot to trade Kaep/James for J. Thomas, then J. Thomas/Amendola for Lynch. Leaving my team as follows:
Rivers, Marshall, Welker, Charles, Forte, Gronk, Lynch.
If I can pull this trade off, I should definitely do it right?

I'd roll James.
If you know for sure the Lynch deal will happen, sure. Hope you don't get stuck between the two deals.

That's part of the concern. The other concern is that if the second trade doesn't go through until after this week's games, I wouldn't have a RB2 to play. Damn trade deadline on the 10th
