Wanted to start a thread with pics etc documenting my elk hunt. Hunt starts 11/9 Here are some teaser pics i took this morning
Day 1. Morning started a little rough. My mom rode with us and got a green horse. Bad combo. Horse starts acting an arse right when we glassed some elk. All is well though. No bull elk in the group
This evening was better. We were headed up a water draw and spotted a decent mule deer. My dad killed his first. The picture doesnt do it justice. Not a monster but a good buck. Overall we saw over 100 mule deer and 20 or so elk
Day 2.
Lots of elk to be seen. My dad and i split up this morning. I went to a harder terrain with my guide and he went to another location where some other outfitters cut them off mid trail to an elk herd
My hunt however did not get bamboozled by assholes. I tagged my first elk at 270 yards. Pics below
Day 4
Started this morning headed up one trail. Heard a bunch of elk and some bugling another direction. So we changed plans
Found the elk. Herd of around 200. Was glassin and my guide saw a good muley on top of the ridge. Says "go kill that muley, we are going down the hill to kill the elk." Five minutes later muley dead, 10 minutes later, elk dead. I watched the whole thing from atop the ridge as my dad killed his first. And get this, at 500 yards. Not bad for a man who is shaking on his right side from parkinsons.
Awesome trip and im glad my dad got a bull. My mom rode with us this morning.
Hellsaroarin outfitters. Been very very pleased. Pics coming soon

The mountain tops are covered up nicely but the low lying areas are bare.
Damn warm front thing coming through this week. Totally sucks for the elk this time of year. Hoping for the best right now, but need a good cool front

How did you go about getting tags?
Do keep us posted. This is something on my bucket list and I have a very short list/time to get it done.

Tags in this area of montana are very easy. It is supposedly a lottery but the last few years they have had 100% success drawing.
We came two years ago and it was hot. No elk at all moving. Booked later this year. We use a guide which is nice. Ride horses all through the hills and they do all the work. For the guide we use, you need to hunt in november and book two yrs in advance

This will probably be my dads last chance. I could give two shits if i kills one as long as he does
Im really bummed about the warm weather. Cold weather and snow equals dead elk in these parts. The good news is, we have seen more elk already than we did all of last time and they killed 3 this morning

Oregon has some units that are basically a guarantee, just depends on what season and what you're killing it with.

We booked with a guide called hellsaroaring.
The advertised rate is 5500 per person but I have learned that everything is negotiable. Quite negtoiable

i checked their website, looks like a great place. My wife of 30 yrs and I used to talk about going to Montana and growing dental floss, (see Frank Zappa). I am going there this summer and check that off the bucket list. Thanks for sharing.

My friends spotted a big 6x6, and several other legals (3 point or better) and cows were everywhere.
Bloodshed should be happening tomorrow.
