Houston has been outscored by 9 points in the 60 minutes it has used Omer Asik and Dwight Howard together in the frontcourt this season

Here are two potential deals involving Asik that would make a lot of sense:
New Orleans Pelicans for Ryan Anderson -- Anderson would give the Rockets exactly the type of stretch 4 that they covet as a sidekick to Howard in the frontcourt. Anderson is also under contract for one year longer than Asik, and for cheaper. From the Pelicans' perspective, losing their big 3-point specialist would be a tough blow, but the opportunity to land someone like Asik may be too much to pass up. Bringing in Asik would fill the team's gaping hole at the 5, and it'd give Tyreke Evans the chance to thrive as the main super-sub off the bench. The team also has the cap flexibility to absorb the sharp rise in Asik's contract for next season ($14.89 million).

To be clear, Asik is paid the large figure, but his cap number is still around $8m next season.

Asik's sharp rise in salary does not affect the cap. Is Asik even worth it?

ew Orleans Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson has officially been upgraded to day-to-day by the organization as he recovers from a chipped bone in his toe.
But the sharpshooting Anderson, who has missed the first five games of the season, likely will miss tonight's game against the Los Angeles Lakers at New Orleans Arena because the pain hasn't subsided.
In recent days, Anderson has ramped up his rehab, sprinting the court, taking shots and dribbling the ball. But after an intense workout on Thursday, Anderson said the pain returned.
"It's just flaring up on me," Anderson said after the Pelicans' shootaround Friday morning. "It's causing me a lot of pain. I've been trying to do some heavy duty running and sprinting and I tried to get up and down yesterday and I couldn't quite get right. It's a thing where if I feel just a little bit of pain I'll play on it. But it's flaring up to the point that it's really hurting."
Anderson chipped the second toe on his right foot in a workout on Nov. 28, just two days before the regular season opener. When the team announced the injury during pregame of the Nov. 30 opener against the Indiana Pacers, it said Anderson could miss between one to three weeks.
Anderson, 6 feet 10 and 240 pounds, was expected to play big minutes in a reserve role for the Pelicans. Without him, the Pelicans have had inconsistent play from their bench as they've gotten off to a 2-3.

People were giving all the credit to Roy Hibbert in the opener when the Pacers beat our Pels. Of course, Indiana is undefeated and a legit challenger for the trophy and Hibbert is a big reason for that. Elite rim protectors do not grow on trees.
We have been in every game without Ryan Anderson. People are delusional if they think he is going to be the answer in regards to taking this squad to the "next level".
But he will stretch the floor!!!!!!!

I would thoroughly enjoy watching this team fully healthy play a few games together first before making the judgment, but IMO Anderson is probably the second best all-around player on the team and will make a large difference. I'm excited to have him back. He's a consistent threat.

Could someone explain the second part? How would asik clogging the paint help tyreke thrive?

Because he hasn't had that opportunity at all this season.
I know you didn't link this, Gyno, but it kind of lends credence to my argument regarding Anderson's impact.

Which means he won't make a difference when we do have him?

While I guess I agree (sorta) that he won't take us to the "next level," wtf does that really even mean? If that is to say we will be better with him, then frick yeah, it will take us to the next level. If it is to say we will be in Title contention once he returns, then yeah, that's absolute garbage.

I'm curious as to why you think this is nonsense.

ESPN ranked him as the 56th best player in the entire league and our 3rd best on the team. He is 6'10", 240 and plays D better than he is given credit. Davis will make up for his average play on D.

THIS. More than anything. THIS.
But, of course, we are going to have people in here taking that for meaning he is a great perimeter defender... What can you do...
